Thread: Got a question about Insurance and Upgrades?

Ok i joined Verizon in Feb, I got the buy one get one Free Storms. 2 Lines of-course with insurance!! Ok the other day I broke my Storm? My Question is do I call insurance company or Verizon? Also when I replace my phone I am i eligible for Upgrade? How many months? I was thinking maybe of just getting a Storm 2 if I could? Thanks

Xintensex - It depends, when you say you broke it, how did you break it? Is it something that could quite be covered under the mfg warranty? If yes then you wouldn't need to use your insurance, just take it back to the store. If the answer is no (ie liquid damage, run over etc) then that would be covered by insurance. If you have to do an insurance claim, the easiest & fastest way would be to go to www.phoneclaim.com . In regards to the upgrade question, i would discuss that with VZW, in most circumstances the primary line only is eligible for an early upgrade after 12 months of service. Hope this helps.

I normally just called sprint when i had to file a claim with the insurance people. I have since just added my BB Storm to my home insurance policy as it was only 3 bucks a month to do that and they just write me a check if i break it after the warranty is over.

I agree with the definition of "broken" determines your next course of action.

If there's a defect on the phone, it would be covered under the 1 year Mfgr Warrantee. The tech in the store will determine if you can swap it out. Don't forget to send back your old phone or you'll be charged full retail for the replacement.

If there obvious self inflicted damage that the warranty won't cover... Contact Asurion, the agency covering the phones. You must first pay the deductible (like all insurance companies), which I believe is $50ish, and then they will send a replacement phone to you. Again, be prepared to send back the damaged phone via the prepaid FedEx, or you may be charged full retail price for the handset.

In regards to upgrading, you are eligible to upgrade 20 months from your initial activation of the ESN of the purchased handset. Your upgrade date is based on contract date/discounted equipment purchase (ie. you purchase during a BOGO deal, at the going 2 year contract rate... you resigned a contract at the point of activation and acceptance of T&C).
