Thread: VZW people in MIDWEST AREA

Ok so I would like to get some confirmation. As no one I have talked to knows anything about this. I live in an alltel area and a while back I posted an alert in vzw that in alltel areas verizon customers were having trouble.. where even though it should be 1X it was showing 1XEV or 3G, therefore not allowing you to always be connected to data. Today for SNG when I got into the vzw area I did *228 option 1. After my prl went from 51540 to 65048. If anyone in this area can try and confirm this would be great. I had a co-worker try that lives in vzw, and they still have 51540. I would like to hear reports from those that live in an old alltel area or even used to be alltel, that ported to vzw. And everyone feel free to try it.

Check your PRL by dialing #4357* send

Dial *228, use option 1

Check your PRL again.

Kind of interesting... I live in Northwest Iowa and Alltel here was pretty big customer wise.

Well my PRL was 51468 and after *228-1 it is now 51540

I think it is more over towards Ohio.. I just got some news that in this region October 17th-18th is when alltel towers will be converted.

Curious if you would what is the PRL and why does it matter?

Am in Southern California my PRL was 0 now is 51540

Preferred Roaming List. It basically only matters if you are outside of a vzw area.. Like if you would go to an area that is alltel who vzw has a roaming agreement you will still get 1X instead of no service. You wont get 3G but its still there. If you are always in VZW 3G this probably wont affect you in the slightest.

Also anytime there is an outage or a network trouble ticket the "update" is pushed through the PRL. Example, the service goes out in Miami...VZW gets it running... 85% of the time your phone may automatically start picking up signal again...the other 15% requires a *228.(this is primarly for non-smart phones tho...so most of you will never have to do this.)
