Thread: BB Curve on Verizon DO I NEED A DATA PLAN?

Hello everyone; I presently have the BB Storm, however was going to give my old (new cond) BB-Curve to my daughter but w/o the data plan. I called Verizon and of course, they say I need a "Data Plan" for an extra 30 bucks.

I asked a few and many of my friends who said, just to change her phone (enV) "OTA" to the old Curve w/o calling Verizon in order to avoid the data plan.

My question is...... Has anyone tried this and will Verizon pick up on my change and automatically include the "Data Plan" w/o me wanting the plan?

I really want her to have the phone but she dont need the "Data Plan" nor do I care to pay for the "Data Plan" and get her hooked on this just yet.

I do believe they will in fact charge you for the data plan regardless of the OTA or if you call. BTW how come you never call anymore...

Yes you do have to have a data plan for all bb phones.

Every BlackBerry on VZW require a data plan ($29.99 or $44.99 BES). The thing is that VZW will not activate your blackberry unless you agree on paying the Data cost. I think there is no point on having the blackberry and not paying the data, that will give you access to the web, e-mail and all the bb services. Totally worth it for me

Correct to all. there is no way to activate a Blackberry phone with out the data plan, and you wouldnt want it because just the phone itself constantly connects to rims servers which uses data, and charges you.

I would have to agree as well jserr1.
I feel like that is not the news that you want to hear however, VZW is the best game in town and they know it. If you have not already, you may want to head down to your local VZW outlet and speak with a CSR face to face and explain exactly what you are trying to accomplish and ask them since you are a loyal customer, how could they accommodate you. They may tell you to go pound salt. IDK...It never hurts to ask.

and didnt completely read, yes if you ota it, you will get the 44.99 BES auto added. there is one way to do the block and no data, but the phone will not be able to send and recieve picture messages(MMS) and sometimes been known to mess with other features of calling and SMS, its not recommended as the feature that needs blocked is a needed feature for the service

Jserr, and if you try to change phones online, it will not let you proceed unless you select a data plan.
