You cannot unlock the Iphone to work on Verizon for the reason suggested in your OP. I believe you can unlock it to work on T Mobile though and that is is.

There is no way to have the iPhone on Verizon unless they release it for Verizon. Since "there is an app for everything" on the iPhone, people can change their carriers on screen and such. But to my knowledge there is no way to get it to work.

There are some videos on youtube where it has the iPhone calling *228 and it does say Verizon Wireless instead of AT&T or T-Mobile, but I believe that all is a fluke, probably an app for that too

I know there was a video floating around of that awhile back and how he did it was program the 1800 number for Verizon into his phone and label it *228 so when it was calling it looked like *228, when in reality it was the 1800 number

Agree it was a fake. iPhone cannot operate on a CDMA network such as VZW or Sprint.
