Thread: Can I buy a Verizon BlackBerry Pearl on ebay in the middle of my plan?

Long story short, got drunk and now my Samsung slider is in 100 different pieces. I'm interested in buying a Blackberry Pearl off ebay to save a few dollars. I want to know how it's going to play out given I haven't bought any kind of internet package. Will it still work?

Hello britniam.. There are two answers to your question. 1. Yes you can buy any Verizon phone at anytime and activate it. As long as the esn is not on the lost/stolen list. 2. In order to use any smartphone device on Verizon, you have to add a data package. For a BlackBerry its an $29.99/month plus your nationwide calling plan. I hope that helps.

I thought the data plan was only for phones that were both on contract?

Incorrect Freddy.. The data is a must have.. Verizon will not allow you to activate the device without it.

Just to add. This is not just Verizon. Almost all carriers now require a Smartphone data plan. So if you buy a smartphone (Blackberry, Droid, Nokia...) and then try to activate it with your carrier, they will not activate until you agree to the $29.99 Data plan.

And to further confuse you, if you do this your going to want to make sure you clarify the 29.99 data package, they have a bad habit of putting people on the 44.99 for BES with out asking or thinking twice.

+1 on that. Happened to me when I upgraded to BlackBerry on Big Red. Fortunately, I have a friend that works in a store that pointed it out to me and fixed it. Thanks, again Lani!
