People are also offered "TEC" (Total Equipment Coverage) at the time of purchase whether buying phone at a direct or authorized dealer. TEC is insurance plus additional "Manufacturer warranty". If after the 12 month manufacturer's warranty runs out and the person has TEC on the account, device will be serviced accordingly. If its physical damage on phone, manufacturer warranty is nullified and the insurance portion of the TEC program takes over and a deductible of $50 (regular phones) and $89 (Smartphones) will then apply to replace device. I know all of this due to Many friends (sales) and (techs)at VZW.
