Thread: Verizon service authorized retail bought phones?

Does anyone know if Verizon services Verizon exclusive phones that are bought from an authorized retail seller, like wirefly?

For example,

I buy a blackberry from wirefly and nothing wrong happens within the 30 day trail period that wirefly provides, but two months later I have an unresponsive keyboard, will Verizon service the phone?

If its on a Verizon plan then yes they will. If not you would have to go through the manufacturer.

JN, That's partly incorrect. It actually depends on how the phone shows up in the database that determines its "warranty". If it shows up as "in warranty", device will be serviced and swapped out accordingly. If it shows up as "out of warranty" then no. People are also offered "TEC" (Total Equipment Coverage) at the time of purchase whether buying phone at a direct or authorized dealer. TEC is insurance plus additional "Manufacturer warranty". If after the 12 month manufacturer's warranty runs out and the person has TEC on the account, device will be serviced accordingly. If its physical damage on phone, manufacturer warranty is nullified and the insurance portion of the TEC program takes over and a deductible of $50 (regular phones) and $89 (Smartphones) will then apply to replace device. I know all of this due to Many friends (sales) and (techs)at VZW.

Prince that would be correct if it is on a Verizon plan as I said. If u buy it to use on another carrier Verizon will not offer you those options. Whig again is what my post said. Only if its on a Verizon plan. So if he activates it on a GSM carrier vzw will not offer tec or warranty.

Shouldn't the RIM 1 year manufacturers warranty be valid no matter where it is purchased from?

Yup and that is what I was trying to say in the first place. If you buy a verizon phone and dont use it on verizon there will be no warranty through them, because there is no history of the ESN, if you buy it and use it on verizon they have a 1 year warranty, and its easier to deal with than RIM, and usually quicker lol

Dont totally disagree w/u JN..E's OP stated nothing about using it w/another carrier. He asked if "Verizon" would service the device if purchased from a third party vendor..
