Hey guys,
I'm going abroad to Spain/France in about a week. I'm thinking of getting a local SIM card and inserting it into my Storm 2.
Can anyone advise me on how to go about telling Verizon and all?
Thank you. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

We pull batteries, swap bezels, break contracts, and stay up all night. We change OSes like we change underwear. If our phones could make us fly, we still wouldn't be satisfied. We're cut from a different cloth. A better breed. We are BlackBerry.
1st, to use a different SIM card you will have to get your SIM unlocked - will run you from about $15 to $30 to get that done. you dont have to tell VZW anything if you do that.
Now, if you want to use the VZW supplied SIM card (which I highly suggest you dont!) you have to call their Global Support dept and you can turn on global roaming for while you are away and you get unlimited data and $1.99/minute calls in and out but... that service SUCKS! You can only get data on Vodaphone networks because VZW has a deal with them (why the supplied SIM has Voda on it). I just returned last night from Antigua and before I left decided to try out the Global Roaming service as I really did not need to make/receive call but wanted data. On Antigua at least this does not work! Even though there are a ton of carriers on the island you can only connect to the Digicel-vodaphone NL network which makes your phone think it is in the Netherlands and thinks you are 6 hours ahead. I had to manually edit the time to get my calendar fixed up after that I could not get data, and could not make calls. I should have just got my SIM unlocked and picked up a prepaid SIM and would have been all set. Thankfully I had wifi pretty much wherever I was and had YouMail set to send me emails for missed calls and voicemails so I did not miss anything.

Miata has posted the best way to do this if you are a vzw user... additionally if you cant get them to unlock it you can get it unlocked like 20 bucks i think which will be about 1/16th of your phone bill if you dont get it unlocked lol
You can call Verizon support and get your Storm unlocked for free as long as your account is in good standings (i.e. no unpaid balance) and you have not performed an unlock in the last 90 days.
Beware though that unlocking does not guarantee that your phone will work with any overseas GSM service provider SIM. I could not make the data services work on one network overseas, and on another network I had to downgrade the OS to 4.7 in order to get the overseas SIM to work.
