Thread: BESX In Verizon's Jail?

We are receiving UNCONFIRMED reports that Verizon Wireless will NOT allow BlackBerry users access to RIM's new BES Express software without upgrading their data plan. This would require an additional $15.00 per month per user. It also appears (again, UNCONFIRMED) Verizon is the ONLY carrier following this outline.

One of the advantages of BESX is it will allow small business owners to use the features of a BES service, at a BIS price. Original reports from RIM stated these features would be available without an increase in cost from the carrier. Apparently Verizon wasn't listening. It appears this is yet another attempt by Big Red to gouge their customer's wallet.

What are your thoughts? Are you already implementing BESX on your server? Is Verizon your company carrier? Let us know!

I have 2 phones on BESX both are Verizon and both are on the 29.99 plan. All is working fine for now.

I heard the same thing as well. Of course Verizon will try to get more money out of this.

Verizon users that are surprised that they would be gouged further by their carrier is the real news item here. Always amazes me what the "other half" pay for service/addons.

I thought it would be nice to be able to keep up with the work email on my Tour, but not to the tune of $15 per month. That's insane. Fortunately the IT department did not move on it anyway!

I feel the same way, It may be more per month, but i have noticed I seem to always have coverage when other carriers in my area do not. When I go on car cruises to the shore, I can walk all the way to the Pacific Ocean beach near me and not lose signal. The other guys' customers always come to me to borrow my phone to call their peeps (because theirs doesn't work, and I am including those with Iphones).
Bottom line, I feel I get more, so I don't mind paying more.

While I completely agree with your post, I disagree as well. Verizon is THE HIGHEST priced carrier. Period. If you want an option, you pay for it. For instance, Visual Voice Mail is $2.99 per month; an option other carriers include at no charge.

Most of the reports on data usage follow the same trend. BlackBerry devices are far more efficient that the iPhone, ANY WinMo device, or the droids (all Android devices). This BESX service is not going to drastically increase the amount of traffic on Verizon's network. But yet we are expected to pay an additional $15.00 per device, if this report is true.

With that in mind, why not continue at the same price point? Instead, they are sending a message that "We know your Berry isn't the data hungry pig on our network, but we want you to pay for it." I understand it's an added benefit and an additional feature. But Verizon isn't providing it. AND the increased traffic on their data network would be minimal at best.

I have 14 bb's at my office and all are running the BIS service from VZW. So far, we have installed BESX and converted 2 of these phones to the BESX server. So far so good. (Outside of the 5 days of trouble shooting to get the bb's to be able to send...lol).

I hope that VZW does not require us to go to the the BES service. If it changes, I will be calling VZW and posting here.

I realllllllllllllllllllllllllllly hope this "source" was incorrect. 5 days of TS? Wow...I'm glad I haven't started this yet. I may potentially be adding a boatload of BB's to a BESX server in the NEAR future.

Hopefully by the end of this week we will have some 100% accurate information. I have heard that there are some trainings going on over the next few days.

He is doing good. 7 weeks to go and Baby Drake will be here.

As for the 5 days of TS, a) that encompases a weekend and b) that also takes into account the 2 hours you have to wait after some repairs to allow the exchange store to refresh and then test, so it isn't as bad as it sounds.

Now, the good news, we know what it takes, I will get with my other IT guy (since we both were working on it) and get a list of exactly what we did to fix it. I do know this, our trouble was only on sending emails, and that has to do with the "Send As" permissions.
