Verizon And Microsoft - Now Joined At The Hip?

With the holidays now behind us, there are several BlackBerry items which may have been overlooked. First and foremost in my mind is the new addition to our Storm search engine! And by addition, I mean "remove Google, and our choice, and put Bing in its place!".

Initially, Bing was pushed to our devices as a shortcut to install the actual application. One side-note? You can't remove it. Now, the Verizon has gone a step further. Bing is now our default search engine in our browser as well. Bye Bye Google!

Personally, I don't care for either one. But the fact that I have no choice in the matter bothers me. It bothers me because I don't use an Android device. I don't use a Windows Mobile device. I use a BlackBerry. A device that, up until now, left me countless choices in what applications and settings I preferred on my device.

On the 23rd of December, Verizon Wireless issued a blog post stating "Verizon Wireless is passionate about ensuring consumer choice in the wireless sector". The articles continues with more ways to use Google, such as using the provider's web page, bookmarks, etc. I'm glad they clarified how I was able to use my browser. I was confused if I still had that choice or not.

Lol... Since Voda owns 51% of VZW I wouldn't be surprised to see microsoft invade your neighborhood too

Your advantage is that the EU seems to hate Microsoft

Probably because you haven't rebooted your phone recently enough for the new service books to be pushed to your phone. And you aren't missing out on anything.

I wouldn't go so far to say that it is hatred yet the EU is looking deeply in monopoles and therefore trying to restrict MS in many instances especially if they are trying to inhibit options - e.g. no IE onbord WIN7 in the EU. So hopefully no "only bing and no choice" issue here.

Maybe a stupid suggestion, but what about setting google as your browser homepage?

What I find really interesting, that with IE8 I cannot open e.g. this page:
Bing search eingne Icon on BlackBerry – How to hide?
which loads well with Firefox, don't know anything about this site, found it via google though

With all due respect rookie, using bing as the search engine is considered a waste of extra steps in my opinion.
I did the same bookmark. At least google search will work. This I know.

    Wirelessly posted (STORM 9530)

Def not complaining here but change has not been pushed to me yet. Just did bat pull & still have google in native browser. Is this something that's a phased roll out?
