Thread: Why can't we be told of official release dates?

I am a Storm 1 owner and I looking to buy a new phone and it may not be a Blackberry. I have waited and seen some of the new phones that Verizon has given us so far (Storm 2, Droid, Edris and Imagio). Each having certain qualities that are likeable. Now I here that Verizon will be dropping a new Curve soon and that there may be an new Android phone called the HTC Passion/Dragon. After owning a Storm, I will not go back to a curve, but this new HTC sound like it is going to be the best new phone out but it does not have a release date or any information pointing towards its release. I feel like I want a new phone know, but I am sure that if I used my upgrade to get any of the above mentioned phones and this new HTC comes out I will be disappointed that I did not what.

Why can't we, the consumer, be told of official release dates for new phones? Instead of being left to make a hasty decission and get disappointed?

I have a few theories. First, Verizon probably doesn't know themselves. It could also be that the device is still too far off to know more.

Unfortunately it's not that cut and dry. There are several processes the device manufacturer goes through, not to mention testing of the OS by the carrier. If the carrier determines the OS or the hardware aren't up to speed, it goes back ... rinse, repeat. THEN depending on the supply...etc.
