Thread: Verizon Upgrade Email for Storm Owners/

As has been documented in other threads and on other forums, there has evidently been an email going out over the last couple of days from Verizon that is allowing an "early" upgrade for the receipient (only) to be able to upgrade to a Storm2 or Motorola Droid...here is a copy posted by someone who has received the email (not me!)..




It is not completely clear if these two phones are your only option or not, although that is what the wording leads you to believe. From those that have received this email and have contacted VZW....no one at VZW seems to know anything about this, but those that have chosen to take advantage HAVE been able to upgrade if they want. In the email it notes that the offer is not available online. Of those people that have said they received such an email, there does not appear to be any common denominator such as number of Storms returned, how long you've had your Storm, how long you've been with Verizon, etc.

My question is this ....Is this the promised "special deal" that has been rumored for Storm owners? and is this Verizon's plan...to send these emails out in waves so that people don't show up in mass at their VZW store to swap out their Storm? Also, handling this offer in this manner would seem to be a low key method of not creating a possible PR mess for VZW...(i.e. not a real public "admission" of a problem with the Storm 1's).....

Meanwhile I wait for my email.....

I would like to have the BOGO added to this special. It isn't fair that we were given a phone without working software to beta test for a year. I fully understood what I was getting into, but had no idea it would take that long to make the phone work correctly.

We really should be able use the New Every Two as well on this.

Does anyone know if I have to get the e-mail to be eligible for the upgrade or can I just walk in the store and get my new phone

I got a flyer in the mail today with the same exact images on it.

stating that the line i bought my storm1 on is eligible for an early upgrade.

well again I saw all this and I not only called the number on the add but also VZW... the number on the add said I could do the upgrade with them next year when my contract was ready to be renewed... VZW said that on my one year anniversary in two weeks, I could upgrade for 179.99

From what others have said, the email is tied to the phone number shown on the email or mailer...those that have called or gone in that haven't received the email or mailer have not been able to upgrade.

It sounds like if you show up with a copy of the email or mailer, they check your account and evidently there is some notation showing you're eligible....I haven't heard of anyone with an email or mailer being denied the upgrade...those that don't have one don't seem to have had any luck convincing the VZW rep that they are due an upgrade....

Well damn, I got the storm 1 about 3 months ago when the BOGO started, it is my first blackberry and I didn't realize that the storm 2 or Droid was coming out. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be eligible. Don't get me wrong I really like the storm 1 but the features on the Droid and the extra memory on the Storm 2 make me really want either one.

Well you never know....one guy that got an email said he had only had his Storm since May, so who knows??

I went in last week and tried to upgrade and was told I could do so on Nov 20th. So, I will try this and see if I can get it earlier.

I received the mailer today as well. I was in line Nov 21 and this is my 5th Storm 1...I might go in this week and check it out. If i can sell my Storm 1 on that website...it might be worth it.

I may head to the VZW store tomorrow and see what kind of luck I have.

Hmmm, this is interesting! I may have to check into this. I have had 8 storms since December. I finally have a good one but cant pass up this opportunity...

What is that website that buys the used storms thanks.

I saw an ad from Verizon that on a two year renewal that the 179.00 has an 80.00 rebate in addition so the phone total cost is $99. I wonder if that will apply with the above ad?

Good luck BBCM! I'm hoping that before it's all over, everyone will have been sent one of these emails or mailers....sounds like until you get one though you're probably not going to get VZW to bite....

am i the only one that noticed the typo in the photo in the OP. makes me wondering if its fake. At the bottom it mentions a new 2-yr contact. it should say contract how ever. kind of seems odd that vzw would mis spell contract but i guess anythings possible.

I copied that photo from another forum and had to piece it together to upload here....might ask one of the posters who have stated they received am email or mailer...from the number of people saying they've received it appears that this is really happening...

Well I saw this ad yesterday online, clicked on the link from bbos site, took me to crackberry where I saw the ad and the number to call. I never received this email and I've had my storm for prob 6 months with one replacement. I decided to give it a shot and call and ask about the campaign, if there's any truth behind it and if I'm eligible or not to use it. The salesman was real nice, told me it is true and that I am eligible for the upgrade. it was 279.00 with the instant rebate of 100.00 which then the final price was 179.00 plus tax. He told me it would be here Friday, so it is true. whether I'm lucky or not is beyond me but if its there for ya, you might as well try getting one.
