This sounds like something verizon telesales does. Are you up for your annual upgrade? The anual upgrade is an idea they came up with to get a contract extension before your actual upgrade. verizon wants to keep your business. think of it this way. back in the day you got upgrades after your contract expiration. but at the same time you could switch carriers and get the same discount from another carrier. no penalties. so verizon came up with a couple strategies to keep you as a customer disguised as customer advantages. first was the early upgrade. a FULL discount every 20 months instead of only after contract expiration. that way there is 4 month leeway to keep your business. nest came the annual upgrade. a little smaller discount but still a good discount after only 12 months. an extra 8 months to get you to be their customer for a full 2 more years. very smart business techniques. as long as you like verizon then there is no reason not to take advantage. just keep in mind two important dates. contract end date so you know when you are done. and your eligibility date. make sure they dont extend your eligibility date.
I got that offer through snail mail last year. My contract was close to expiring. I let it expire and ignored the offer. Which was a good thing because then they sent another offer for 2 free months. At the time my reg plan was $80. So I got $160, plus my NE2 $100 and snagged 2 BOGO storms and a bunch of accessories.
So if anyone else gets one of these offers, and has some patience, it can be worth waiting it out to see what else they'll throw your way.
