Thread: Totally new to this - Questions

I'm trying to tweak the Precision Zen theme that came stock with my 9700 and have been playing around with Theme Builder for about a day. I have some basics and learned a few things but I still feel lost. All I'm trying to do is to get a weather slot on the home screen. I have no clue how to do that. Also, then I start with the basic Zen theme in Theme Builder, I try to add 6 icons at the bottom (just like the stock theme) but I seem to only be able to fit 5.
I hope I can get some hints so I can get this done.

Welcome to BlackBerryOS rustypixel!!! Though I am not one to give advice on themes there are many here that can. You have come to the right place. If you want to go to Lunars Edge Design they have many tutorials on theme building.

My advice is to just play around as much as you can. IMO, the best way to learn is to just jump in and learn by trial and error. I started of by making a custom precision zen theme myself. Just keep experimenting and you will figure it out.

What basic background knowledge/equipment does one need to do any of this? Playing around with themes and such is intriguing to me. Any input would be great, thanks!

Honestly the only thing you need is a desire to learn. Don't get frustrated and utilize the tools great theme builders have put together as a help guide. And just as Nate said trial and error are the best ways to learn. Don't worry if it doesn't work as expected the first.

That's cool. See, I don't have a computer background, machinist by trade actually, but love to dabble in gadgets. This site is crazy with the wealth of knowledge out here. So what is the first step one needs to do to?
