Why are Canadian Mobile Plans so overpriced?

I'm on Telus, and just looked up the new "Clear Choice" Plans they have available.

Why have they eliminated the Unlimited Data plan option? or Fav. 10?

I'm pretty fortunate to still have my old 200 min, Unlimited data plan and fav 10, but from the sounds of it, I'll be forced to choose one of their Clear Choice plans next time my contract is up?


In contrast, looking at Vodafone UK, or HK, or any other country for that matter... The Storm 2 is free on a 2 year contract, with unlimited data and texts and 600 minutes for just 35 pounds, or $65 can.

Can someone explain this too me :confused: Its pretty frustrating knowing we pay what we pay for, when compared to many other countries, lesser and more expensive plans.

2.You wont have to change plans as long as your combined rate is at least $50 and i am assuming it is
3. In the clear choice there are access or 911 fee and they include basic voice mail.
4. I have see plans in the us way more expensive.

And No, i don't need "unlimited" data just like no-one needs "unlimited" text, but they still offer that don't they?

During the summer I was working for 4 months where there was no wireless or wired internet available... I tethered to my laptop, and blew through over 2Gb of data in 1 month.

The point is, they are charging the same now for 500mb as they did 2 years ago for unlimited.... how is that fair?

Especially when the rest of the planet is still offering Unlimited Data plans, for less money.

Guess what was bugging me was that they bumped their rates up back up after what I had thought had been a steady decline in data plan costs over the previous years.

What ever, not much to do about it... ugh :( lol

i pay $40 a month for unlimited data plan from Bell, doesn't seem like alot of money to me for unlimited data

On mine it's like 30 for a plan and 40 for the data, so 70 is a bit steep.

I guess the way it goes for a BB. I could complain but no one would listen to me. haha :)

Lets put some perspective on this. We as Canadians allow this. We don't question, we just go along with it. Yes, Bell does have a cheap data plan at $40.00, but then you have all of the other charges on top of that that add up very quickly.

Another charge that we just accept is the system access fee. We pay this every month. We bitch and moan about it but at the end of the day we still pay it, or no phone service. Most US carriers do not charge a monthly system access fee and they enjoy they're service, but we as Canadians are told it is a necassary evil in order to keep service going.

As long as we tolerate this, nothing will change. We will still pay the same fees if not more each month and accept any increases with a frown. As with the increased cable fees (blatant and poorly disguised money grab) that we are trying to block through public awareness, the same needs to be done with cell carriers.

But they dont offer unlimited data on bell anymore either.. yes, $40 was a decent data charge for unlimited. but now it only gets us about 500-1000 mb

If tethering is the issue just purchase the license for tetherberry it works great!
