Airave + Tour (did they ever fix it)?

Anyone still using an Airave and a Tour together? Did they ever fix the airave to work properly on this phone?

My understanding was that it didn't play nicely with MEID based devices. To not totally disable your ability to call out while in airave coverage you had to disable the country calling code in the settings (so it wouldn't auto dial 1). While this would allow calling to be completed it never seemed to hold a signal worth a damn on the Tour. While sitting 5 feet from the airave my Tour would constantly switch back and forth between 1X and 1XEV like a yo-yo.

Finally gave up a few months ago and just boxed up my airave. Is this the same for everyone?

Side note: I did get a replacement airave thinking that I may have had a defective unit but the problem persisted across devices.

Sorry... Airave is a transmitter/receiver that connects to your high speed internet connection (dsl/cable) and allows your Sprint wireless phones to connect to the voice/data network through the Airave rather than the wireless towers.

In theory, it is great for users who have terrible reception at home/work but get fine signal when out and about.

The downside is that the data only supports 1X speed. The other downside (mostly just for tour users) is that you have to disable the region/country code to be able to place any calls within airave coverage. Also, in my experience the Tour doesn't like to be connected to the Airave as it's constantly dropping signal and trying to connect to a crappy tower signal despite being a few feet away from the airave.

Cool, thanks for the explanation, your own private cell tower at home, the idea sounds great - but reality seems to s*** a bit?! In principle this is the exact opposite of Tether for Blackberry.

It actually works really well with every device I have (4 out of 5) except the tour. For whatever reason the Tour will not seem to stay connected to the damn thing and keeps trying to connect to the tower anyway.

My wife's 8330, my Treo 755, Katana, and Treo 700 all stay solid as a rock on the Airave when it's powered up.

We have it in our house and have no problems with our tours on it except everytime we leave and come back or do a bat pull we have to dial back into it. And you sure can tell when we are not dialed into it because we have next to no signal. we have not had to disable anything on our phones to get it to work with it.

i want to take that back! ever since i've posted my comment i have had nothing but trouble! come to find out that i may never have been hooked up to it and that our signal just have been fluctuating that much in our area! oh well, live and learn i guess.

i just want to update this a little. i just talked to sprint (yet again!) and they said if you are having issues with your tower signal then you will have issues with your airave! it is a 1 -1 correlation. so i hope this helps anyone at all as i am making them track down all of their issues in my area.

rounsy222, I think you got some bad info from the last Sprint rep you spoke with. You may indeed be having issues with your Airave (not connecting) but that shouldn't have anything to do with the Sprint towers. The Airave provides a mini-cell tower in your home and then directs the voice/data traffic out through your internet connection. This essentially bypasses your nearby cell tower.

Also, the Airave in it's current form only supports 1X data speeds so don't expect lightning browser, download, PAM speeds if you're on the Airave. Hope you get it squared away soon!

Funny you should mention that. I agree entirely!I have come to the conclusion that none of them knows or cares about a customers issue enough to follow through. Sad really. I actually have been talking with the engineer that is checking our cell towers out and he did a drive by/sit in front of our house yesterday and he said that our airave is screaming hot. And that what we probably are experiencing is a shadow effect from that, meaning that its actually creating a dead spot in our home from being cranked up too high. Also with that it put noise into the air degrading what signal from the towers I maybe getting. I have spoken with him twice now and he is the only one so far that has given me the same info more than once, and he is just a contractor for them!
