With BlackBerry World 2011 behind us, we have taken a moment to reflect back on some good news that we missed last week. One demo worthy of showing is Poynt's integration of BlackBerry push services to their BB smartphone via PlayBook. With push services being one of the hottest items about BlackBerry, Poynt does a great job at utilizing this feature. In the above video, Peter Werry from Poynt, gives a walk-through of how their app works with push and other innovative uses of BlackBerry services. Poynt is a free app that you can download from their site or BlackBerry App World.

Are you a Poynt user? Leave us feedback on how the app works for you.

    1. BlackBerry Themes

Created by Guzzl3r, Buuf Deuce is a theme which is originally named, in my opinion. This theme has almost everything that a theme buyer would want, including a really nice looking HTC-style clock, custom-made icons, a hidden today, and room for extra icons on the homescreen, while delivering it to you perfectly.

The first look at this theme will leave you with a feeling that it is clunky-in the sense that it's an eyesore. However, using this theme for a few minutes will most definitely prove you wrong. The homscreen features a HTC-style clock with a weather slot, a dock, a hidden dock, and a normal banner with a clock, date and weather slot. Above this, there is a hidden today feature-click on the notifications bar, and a today screen shows up, with previews for your calendar items and new messages.

Many keyboard shortcuts are included, which are:
    • alt+D shows the first dock.
    • alt+S shows the second-hidden-dock.
    • alt+C hides the HTC clock and shows the normal banner.
    • Alt+X hides the banner and shows the HTC clock.
      And lastly;
    • The Escape button hides the dock that was active, so that you have no docks visible.

Fast and functional. Those were the first two words that popped into my head after 5 minutes of using Aero Center by KD Themes. This theme is perfect for everybody who owns a blackberry, whether for personal use or for business. Inspired by Window's Media Center, there are many things which make this theme unique.

The homescreen has numerous features, all which, in my opinion, increase the functionality of this theme. There is a vertical sliding dock, with sub-sections that contain all of the most-used parts of the Blackberry OS, such as SMS and MMS, Blackberry Messenger, and Sound profiles. When on the main 'menu', the user can select the app they would like to use by moving the trackpad left or right, or can select other sub-sections by moving the trackpad up or down. In addition to all that, there is an dock, where the first 6 icons on the application screen show. This, combined with the Windows Media Center-like menu, will render your application screen redundant.

    2. How-To, Help, Tips

Last week, BlackBerry Messenger v6.0.0.56 was leaked from an extracted OS 6.1 leaked build. Many individuals who initially tried to install it ran into bricked devices. Within 48 hours (thanks Poita316 & Firesail2010) we were able to create a step-by-step installation for our readers.

This new version of BBM brings tons of UI & tweaks that are much welcomed.

The ability to choose specific colors for each BBM contact is a feature that should have been included years ago! I find it much easier to differentiate between what I'm writing & what my contacts are typing back to me.

There is a slight lag within the application, but the overall use is smooth. Many are stating that they've had memory leaks or battery drain from this leak.

OS 6.1 icons abound & they bring a more friendly look to BBM.

If you wish to install this leaked version of BBM, please follow the instructions below carefully:

    1. Make sure you have a Stock BBM (5.0.1.49 seems to work well) *Do NOT delete*
    2. Install BlackBerry ID app (BlackBerry ID [OS6] - Downloads - BBH-Plus Forums)
    3. Install BBM 6.0.0.56 (http://bb-h.me/bbm60056)
    4. If prompted to overwrite, please say YES
Warning 1: This new BBM can only be installed on OS 6 devices. OS 5 is NOT compatible.
Warning 2: Although we have created a process that has been successful at installing BBM 6, the process is not guaranteed to work on your device. If you choose to install, BlackBerryOS is not accountable for any malfunction that may happen to your device.

Blink is a professional LED customization app for your BlackBerry that allows one to utilize the device's LED in a custom color for important contacts, social app, incoming calls, email and SMS. Get to know who's calling or messaging you without having to pick up your phone! Blink has 20 LED colors and 10 different speed modes to choose from.

This LED alert app is especially nice for those who like to leave their device on silent/buzz mode. This way you can set the LEDto a color of choice, and when it goes off you will know whether you missed a call, SMS, email, ect, just by looking at the light. For the price, Blink is a good alternative ($3.99) to the more expensive similar apps that are available. Overall good price, good features, and the developer is always on top of updating the app as well. Vikysoft, the creators of Blink, also offer a 7 day free trial. Can't go wrong to pick this one up for your BlackBerry.

CONTEST: VikySoft has given us 20 copies of Blink to giveaway to our BBOS members. Want a free copy? To get entered for a chance to win a free copy, follow the link below and leave us a comment in the Forum. That's it! Contest entry ends Tues April 12th at 12 midnight. Good luck!

If you are a fan of the BlackBerry charging pods like I am, you are going to love this. The charging pod holds the PlayBook at a slight angle just as the handheld pods do for BlackBerry handsets. This would be ideal as a nightstand PlayBook or as a dock while you are busy multi-tasking on the PlayBook.

RIM brought some of their upcoming accessories for the PlayBook to this year's CES in Las Vegas. Styles include the BlackBerry Neoprene Sleeve, BlackBerry BookBinder, BlackBerry Zip Sleeve, BlackBerry Envelope case and BlackBerry Hard Shell case. For all those hoping to pick up the PlayBook at launch, accessorizing will not be an issue.

BE SURE TO READ THE LAST PARAGRAPH FOR DETAILS ON THE CONTEST WITHIN THE CONTEST

Last week I had a few personal issues to deal with but I'm happy to say Theme Thursday is back again!!

For Theme Thursday, we're going to look at Swag once again, from drkapprentice designs. I've been using several of his themes now for quite some time, and I have to say, my first impression of Swag was way off base.

Blaq is a twitter client for BlackBerry phones that is available in both paid, "Blaq", and free, "BlaqLite", forms. In my opinion there is really no substantial difference between the two, therefore the version I will be testing is BlaqLite.

Dropbox came to me as I perused the BlackBerryOS.com site recently. It was being lauded as a mobile app for BlackBerrys that would enable you to share your files directly from the mobile app itself, AND a free 2GB space if i applied now?? I had to at LEAST take a test drive!

The average your child spends on text messaging is more than 120 texts each school day, and more than three hours a day is spent on social networking websites each school day. Some of us may be surprised by that. Others may say that it doesn't matter, as long as they aren't getting in trouble. Believe it or not, children are more inclined to get into trouble with such unlimited access to todays technology.

According to a study at Case Western Reserve University, students who spend the most time texting and/or on social networking sites are at risk in getting involved bad behavior like smoking, risky sex, depression, eating disorders, drug and alcohol abuse. Parents should also be concerned that the more children are immersed in this unsocial "social" networking world, parent-child communication is failing. If you are concerned about these issues, and you child has or will have a BlackBerry, we bring you...TextNanny...

Enjoy Skype calls and chat on your BlackBerry! Pure phone quality, no extra voice delays. Call to any landline or mobile number at low Skype rates. With IM+ Talk for BlackBerry you can talk with other Skype users all over the world.

IM+ Talk allows you to make free VoIP calls in Wi-Fi areas and over 3G/EDGE. When connecting via wireless carrier's network you can still make calls using Skype credits. With app purchase, you get a lifetime license so all further updates are included. You can also transfer the license to another device (except for iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad and webOS). The cost for this app is $29.95 and requires OS 4.3 or later.

I had a chance to test out the CaseMate Hybrid Tough case for my 9650 and I figured I would write up my experiences. What separates these cases from most BlackBerry cases is that it comes in two pieces: a soft silicon shell which is wrapped by a harder ABS plastic skin. Overall I thought the case was great in some respects but it really fell short of my overall expectations.
