We've been bombarded over the last few months with leaked information of upcoming devices. Until recently, the upcoming software roadmap had been absent. That all changed today with N4BB getting a leaked copy of the roadmap.

Some of the updates/apps have already been released, & have actually been within the timelines on this roadmap.

One things that stick out to me would be the app updates in May that say OS6.1!

The updated OS is near? Who knows!

But November seems to be a clear indication of OS 7, which I personally hope is QNX-based.

BGR apparently heard from several sources that T-Mobile has launched an official OS6 update for Bold 9700. Like mentioned in the Beta Zone, it seems the version is 6.0.0.448.

As of right now, users are seeing this update only thru Desktop Manager.

Have any of you been able to successfully update?

An exclusive coming from BGR from their sources is that RIM is planning to bring BlackBerry Messenger app and service to the Android and iOS. This means that Tablets from Google's Android OS and Apple's iOS will be running BBM as well. Sources report that RIM has not yet finalized details surrounding timing or pricing, and might make the software free to all users. Strategy is still being developed, and RIM may end up charging users a one-time fee or even a recurring fee for access to its BBM service on third-party platforms.

As far as what Android and iOS users can look forward to, well, sources say that RIM will offer stripped down versions of the BBM which means that the potential for millions more users will be able to communicate cross-platform via BlackBerry Messenger. But depending on the limits that RIM puts on a simplified version, they might not be able to share photos, location, or videos, ect. Users who want the full BlackBerry Messenger experience will still need a BlackBerry. BGR also reports:

Right now, we have heard that Android is definitely a go. But again, we’re not sure on timing, though our sources are confident that it will launch some time this year. RIM chose Android first because of the fact that it could develop and integrate something like this much easier with an open platform, but the plan is to build and deploy an iOS version at some point as well.
Would bringing BBM to devices other than BlackBerry push you away from RIM, or bring you closer?

Although slightly past the original expected timeframe of Q1 2011, it seems numerous sources are claiming that the PlayBook will see a retail launch on April 10th,2011.

No word yet if this is a USA or Worldwide launch.

If this information is correct, it will be coming out exactly a month after the iPad 2. Not exactly an ideal launch date if the market is saturated with Apple's launch.

An updated version of Facebook for BlackBerry was released today, with several bug fixes:

    • email notification improvements
previously, if you turned on email notifications using the facebook.com website, then logged out and logged back into facebook on your blackberry smartphone, your email notification settings would be turned off. Now, with facebook for blackberry smartphones 1.9.0.28, email notifications are left enabled if you change email notification settings using facebook.com, then log out and log back in to facebook on your blackberry smartphone.

    • Background polling
previously, if you set the background polling option to never, then logged out and logged back into facebook for blackberry smartphones, the polling setting would be set to 10 minutes instead of never. This issue has been corrected so the background polling option will remain at the never setting.

    • Photo upload freeze fix
in the past, users may have seen their blackberry smartphone freeze when sending a photo to facebook from the media folder on their blackberry smartphone. This issue has been corrected by this maintenance release so no further freezing should occur
Seems to be running more smoothly than previous official versions.

I've heard that some people are seeing 1.9.0.27 in App World, others are seeing 1.9.0.28

If you'd like to upgrade to the latest release of Facebook on your BlackBerry smartphone, complete the following steps:

    1. Open Facebook on your BlackBerry smartphone
    2. Press the Menu key and select Options
    3. Scroll down and select the option Check for Upgrade Now

If Barak Obama gets to keeps his BlackBerry in the White House, why shouldn't Members of Parliament in Canada be allowed to tweet or do a status update from the House of Commons?

Well, it seems that issue has been resolved. Starting today, MPs can now use Twitter/Facebook installed on their BlackBerry to keep their constituents updated on what's going on.

Previously, they were only allowed to use web-based applications.

SocialScope is apparently giving away free invites today to anyone who signs up. It is quite coincidental that they choose to do this on the same day that UberTwitter gets suspended. What do you think?

RIM has created a Facebook app via their BlackBerry Facebook page in which you can create your own Valentine's Day wallpapers for your own BlackBerry device. You can even use your Facebook photos to design the wallpaper, and then instantly share your wallpaper with that special someone.
