Gazelle, one of the largest electronic trade-in service has reported a massive spike in BlackBerry trade-ins. Gazelle's Chief Gadget Officer Anthony Scarsella seems to think that " Consumers could be starting to fear the end of the Canadian based device maker." Unfortunately Mr. Scarsella's opinions seem to seem to be shared by quite a few others, and the term "RIM is dead", has also been loosely.

Scarsella goes on to say that the company's "data illustrates that BlackBerry trade-ins have risen 80% above the normal 30-day average since March 1st here at Gazelle [...] Consumers could be starting to fear the end of the Canadian based device maker. BlackBerry owners are indeed starting to dump their current smartphones before their beloved BBM and email support comes to a screeching stop if RIM collapse. The fear of rapid depreciation and unsupported devices has consumers upgrading to other platforms quicker than ever before.”

One would have to be in denial if they did not see the sudden spike in BlackBerry trade-ins as a concern, but what about the comments about consumers fearing the end of RIM. Is there any truth to this? To be frank, there actually is, but for the wrong reasons. The fact is that consumers are suckers when it comes to going with whatever the media says. Comments like " RIM is dead" are simply not true and are based on the medias assumption rather than the cold hard facts. Last I checked a company that is worth over 7 Billion dollars was considered to be doing quite well, A dead company is bankrupt and simply can't move on, a dead company has no hope for a future, a dead company, has no plans for the future. I would venture to say that RIM has addressed all of those characteristics that mark a dead company.

About a week ago we reported that today, Tues the 24th, BlackBerry Beta Zone website was going to get a much needed redesign and it's finally happened! The overall redesign UI is more "blog-like" to give the site a overall easy navigational feel.

The forums are also going to get a makeover so members can keep track of their latest posts, ect. The mobile interface will be much improved and easier to navigate, and a new 2 click feature will be implemented so it takes only 2 clicks to start new beta downloads.

I for one am really exited for this redesign, and for sure we will see a much needed spike in the beta testing community to get active in making these native RIM apps how we'd like them.

Are you a Beta Zone member/tester? Let us know what you think of this redesign in the comments! If not, get signed up today!

As the event approaches, you will also be able to create your conference schedule and you won’t miss a beat with the apps Event Messages and social channels - all right from your BlackBerry device. This app will be your onsite tool to fill out surveys, view conference maps, and even connect with other people attending the conference. The app will automatically update when there are schedule changes, and synchronize with your conference calendar in the My Scheduler tool on your desktop.

Isn't she lovely? I fell in love when I first saw her in the Harry Potter movie series. Emma Watson is indeed one of the best teen celebrities right now. And look at her; she is busy with her BlackBerry Bold 9780. Is she texting or sending a BBM message? That made me wonder what her BBM pin is. Hold on... She gave it to me before… in my dreams!

In an attempt to revive its self, RIM has hired the law firm of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP. According to Reuters news, RIM has hired the firm to work out a restructuring plan to help get the company out of its declining rut. RIM's stock has fallen over 75 percent over the past year and investors and consumers are having some serious concerns regarding the company's future. So what's on the road map for this new restructuring plan?

    OS Licensing

RIM licensing their new BB 10 OS has been a hot topic of conversation ever since rumors started to circulate regarding a possible to sale to mobile giant Samsung. Even though this rumor was quickly squashed, the possibility using a BlackBerry OS on a Samsung device may not be out of the picture, and why not? Yes, to a die hard BlackBerry user the idea of seeing a BlackBerry OS on another device may be strange or even wrong but once again in the scope of things it makes sense.

Let's face it RIM has not been known for its innovative refreshing of mobile devices. Many times users are left with the same old remix of an old device. Perfectly seen with RIM's latest release of the new Curve 9220, it may appeal to the BlackBerry fanboy but it does not appeal to the masses.

Having a solid OS just makes sense. Why not have the worlds most secure OS running on your hardware? It is no secret that other mobile platforms are lacking in the stability and security department. Mobile handset makers should be looking at this as an opportunity to boost the value of their devices. RIM should be looking at this as an opportunity to capitalize on the licensing fees and partnerships that it would acquire.

    Infrastructure Allocation

RIM has one of the worlds most secure infrastructure. Why not branch it out a little? We already know that CEO Thorsten Heins is looking to cater more to Enterprise customers, and rightly so. After all that is where their profit is. RIM is slowly loosing ground with its consumer base, and more companies are abandoning the BlackBerry because of it.

RIM has a solid infrastructure. Why not lease it out allow other organizations to use it? Cater to big government and allow them to use it for more than just mobile devices. RIM needs to continue to focus on maintaining and enhancing their current infrastructure. It only makes sense to continue doing what you do well. By opening up their infrastructure and hosting services RIM could be the central hub for security.

    The Consumer

While licensing and infrastructure allocation are great, RIM needs not to forget about its consumer base. It is more than feasible that RIM can do both. Although RIM has been proactive it its marketing efforts targeted towards consumers it has fallen short because of the devices behind it. In the United States where RIM is struggling the mos,t users are not interested in a remix of an old device they want something new and refreshing.

This is where BB 10 comes into play. It needs to be a success, it has to be something different, it has to have the "wow" factor or its going to be quickly written off. Not only does it have to appeal to end users but it has to appeal to developers as well. There are plenty of developers that are excited to get their hands on a BB 10 device, but will they want to develop for it? Quickly getting developers familiar with the BB 10 and the tools they needs is paramount to the success of BB 10. After all the minute a user get a new device they want to see what apps it has. The more apps and features, the more likely a person is to stay with that device.

The history or RIM's troubles are in the books. Personally I am optimistic about RIM's future, and I think the right move for them is to cater to their enterprise customers without forgetting its loyal consumers. The only problem is finding the perfect balance between the two.

So the roll-out progress of 7.1 is getting wider and wider and becomes available now for download in Singapore. As confirmed, BlackBerry Bold 9900 users in Singapore will now be able to enjoy the amazing OS 7.1 for free via BlackBerry - Updates or by simply using their BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

There are many new features that come with the new OS 7.1 that they will surely enjoy. One of the features is BlackBerry Tag, which is a big enhancement in sharing files and contents to another BlackBerry user. This feature can only be used by NFC enabled BlackBerry devices to easily share information and data as compared to using Bluetooth. They can even add and exchange new BBM contacts, documents, photos and other multi-media files instantly using this new feature.

This is a sad announcement to everyone. As stated by Google, they are going to discontinue their support for Google Sync for BlackBerry app starting June 1, 2012. This is said to be part of their "Spring-cleaning stuff" which I must say is out of season and also not the first time they have stopped supporting the BlackBerry OS. Last year they ended their support for Gmail app.
