    2. BlackBerry PlayBook

Well it looks as though we can say good by to the 16 GB version of the BlackBerry PlayBook. Earlier in the week we told you that RIM was thinking about discontinuing the 16 GB PlayBook, but at that time there was no conformation on whether or not it was actually going to happen. Now there is. The PR team over at RIM issued the following statement regarding the matter:

"RIM will no longer be making the 16 GB model of the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. The 16 GB PlayBook will continue to be available for distributors and retailers while quantities last. We continue to remain committed to the tablet space and the 32 GB and 64 GB models of the BlackBerry PlayBook continue to be available from our distributors and retailers around the world.

There is more value for our customers in the higher capacity models (32 GB, 64 GB), and as such we have decided to focus our efforts here."

Now this may come as sad news to some, but the reasoning behind it just makes sense. 16 GB of space simply is not enough room for most people. After downloading a couple of high-definition movies one can quickly see their space dwindling. For those of you thinking about purchasing a PlayBook now would be a great time as the last of the 16 GB PlayBook's are now being flushed out of retailers inventory. There may not be a price change, but if cost is an issue you may want to get one while they last.

BlackBerry devices and government organizations flow together so easily, it's almost as though the two were meant to be. The choice from government organizations to use BlackBerry devices as their primary means of communications is not only a testimony of the portability and security of the BlackBerry device; but it is also a testimony of something RIM got right.

Although the competition has been trying their best to enter into the world of the federal mobile device market, they all have fallen short of the underlying requirements; security. Yes, it's that word again security. Tired of hearing about it? Some may be, but the federal government is not. Security has to be and will be the number one concern when it comes to big government IT, and a large chunk or government IT is mobile device management.

This is an area where RIM has gotten it right from the beginning, and it seems as though the competition, Apple, Android have gone backwards in regards to security. Just take a look at the latest issue with LinkedIn's iOS application, in which it leaks sensitive user information as the app communicates with LinkedIn's servers. Malware on Android devices have spiked significantly over the past year and are only getting worse. The point here is that security can't be ignored, brushed off, or poorly practice in any type of government organization.

Yes, you heard right folks. Our very own BBOS Senior Editor, JT Teran - AKA @AgentBlackBerry, has been knighted the prestigous award of BlackBerry Fan of the Month for June 2012! While this comes as no surprise to us BlackBerry super fanatics who know JT, it did at first come as a surprise to him. But that's just because JT is a humble guy that is so infatuated with BlackBerry, and is always so busy sharing his knowledge and friendship to the community, that sometimes he forgets just how much of an influence he really is. That's the mark of a true BlackBerry fanatic. He's like that great Musician that tells you their skill level is just "ok," when in truth, they freakin' rock! I'm especially excited for JT to obtain this status within the melting pot of #TeamBlackBerry, and it's an honor for me to announce this achievement to our readers as well. RIM couldn't have picked no one better than him to be this month's BlackBerry FOTM!

Now for a little fun fact about our FOTM before I let you loose to read the interview with JT at the Inside BlackBerry Blog. JT has become well known for coming up with awesome ways to relate a BlackBerry product to certain dates. Call him a BlackBerry numerologist if you will. He was the creator of the viral hashtag, #TwosDay, which RIM officially took hold of as a label for the launch of OS 2.0 for the BlackBerry PlayBook on Tuesday, Feb 21st. He is also the originator of the idea that the first BlackBerry 10 smartphone should launch on 10-10 later this year. I could actually see this happening. We already know RIM has taken to his clever dating methods before.

Something else I might add real quick to this awesome announcement, is that JT is the second BBOS team member to receive the BB FOTM award! Yep, our very own BBOS Writer, Brian - AKA @Newshutr, was RIM's first victim to be dubbed BlackBerry Fan of the Month back in January! If that doesn't say something about how great of a group of true BlackBerry fanatics are on BlackBerryOS, then nothing will. One thing you can always count on, BBOS will always stay true to the #TeamBlackBerry community!

JT is always posting on Twitter, so be sure to follow him for all his latest and greatest. Also, if you aren't a member of BBOS yet, get signed up now, and add AgentBlackBerry as a site BBOS friend, and check out his articles here in the blog.

Now head over to the official BlackBerry blog to read the interview with JT, and find out more about June's BlackBerry Fan of the Month! Don't forget to leave a comment below congratulating JT on this awesome achievement!

Back in October of last year, a couple concept videos from RIM leaked into the community. These videos showed various concepts that could possibly become reality on BlackBerry devices in the future. Anywhere from seamless integration from BES admin to the end user, to controlling your home security system and more from your Smartphone.

This time around, another video has surfaced via the BlackBerryDE YouTube account. The video is dated 2011, so it may just be one of many more of these first concept videos that have yet to release. In the video, it shows off the future of the customer experience as a young woman uses mobile technology to find her wedding outfit, and buy and communicate with online and offline retailers. The video shows that customers and businesses can use mobile technology to work together more easily and quickly to respond to the customers needs.

What do you think about these concepts? Let us know in the comments!

The web based Twitter client, Twimbow, has announced they will release their first mobile app on day one for BlackBerry 10 OS smartphones when they launch later this year. Twimbow is a web application that helps any social media user to engage their network of friends more effectively, by organizing and enriching their conversations online. Twimbow also has a feature where you can organize your contacts by certain colors, allowing you to filter out what is most relevant and important to you.

Twimbow has laid out the 5 reasons why they are going to start their app with the BlackBerry 10 OS in a blog post. These reasons include:

    1. BlackBerry 10 is the most open OS available for smartphones, way more than Android (and capable of running Android apps as well). The set of tools developers can use is incredible and you can basically port any app to that OS very easily.
    2. HTML5 performance: as many tests already confirmed, HTML5 performance on BlackBerry 10 is far superior than iOS or Android. It is actually outstanding. Given that Twimbow is a rich HTML5 app, porting it to BB10 is very easy and can offer incredible performances to our users
    3. BB10 is capable of running an HTML5 app as a native app, with a deep integration with the OS (notifications, BBM integration, UI etc.) and taking advantage of the real multi-tasking capabilities of the BB10 OS, something not available in other smartphones.
    4. the opportunity to be in the BB App World for the BB10 launch is huge, so we want to be there.
    5. some of the countries that are very important for Twimbow are historically very important for BlackBerry as well. An example? Indonesia, #2 country in terms of Twimbow registered users and now #1 in terms of daily users.

So check out the video demo above of the early BlackBerry 10 version of Twimbow and be sure to let us know what you think in the comments!
