BeepUs, the free push-to-talk app for BBM has been updated today to v1.0.1. This is good news as yesterday BeepUs had been pulled from App World by RIM but now is back in action. The following change-log comes with the new update:

    • Instructions
    • UI Improvements
    • Some Fixes

Good to see that instructions were included in this update as many users (including myself) where a bit puzzled as to how the app exactly worked. So get updated or download the app and let us know how it works for you!

Restart Me 2.0 For BlackBerry Released – The Ultimate Reboot App For Free!

Today S4BB Limited has officially launched a new version of Restart Me; Restart Me 2.0. This application is by far the best app to easily reboot your phone. All you need is a click to open the app and another click to reboot. No more complicated key combinations, or worse, battery pulls! Best of all? This app is for free! The new version comes with some radical improvement. Besides an all new catchy layout (see how the app icon is a tribute to the well known restart button in Windows XP) they have improved the functionality of the app. Restart Me 2.0 is now also compatible with BlackBerry Smartphones running OS 6.0 and 7.0, this includes the brand new Bold 9900. Be sure to let us know how the app works for you in the comments!

BlackBerry App World 3.1 With WiFi Support Coming Soon

Over the past few months RIM has been working hard to improve its BlackBerry App World. We have seen much improvements with the recent releases such as a revamped user interface. Now RIM is working on version 3.1 which will allow for one very important feature, WiFi support. That means if you have a wifi connection you can still download all your favorite apps, and at faster speeds. In addition another new feature called "gifting" will also be available. This new feature allows you to download a app that someone else paid for.

These two features will be a nice addition to the current App World. I am really looking forward to the WiFi support. What do you think about these two new features?

BlackBerry Innovation Forum 2011, Washington DC Recap

    1. BlackBerry News

Earlier today I had the opportunity to attend the BlackBerry Innovation Forum 2011 in Washington DC. The event is part of a circuit of forums held by RIM at various locations. The idea behind these forums is to show organizations what BlackBerry can do for them, and how they can take advantage of various solutions that RIM has to offer. This one was not as elaborate as the ones in London or EMEA, but did provide a wealth of information regarding the future of BlackBerry.

I was able to gather up quite a bit of information from the breakout sessions, and was able to chat with several RIM employees about the star of the show, the BlackBerry PlayBook. Here is a brief overview of some key points that you may find interesting.

    PlayBook 2.0
    • Will have native email client with a a unique feature rich UI. Client will have more options than current bridge based mail client
    • Calendar completely revamped, and includes new "people view" feature
    • No plans for BBM client
    • Native file app
    • Contacts app more feature rich, more like current BlackBerry's Contact list.
    • Target date around February 2012
    Misc
    • RIM is working on Bluetooth keyboard and case that fit together for the PlayBook. Release around February 2012. Cost is a little over $100
    • RIM working on Enterprise App World for enterprise applications
    • OS 7.1 is looking like a December release
    • UMA update for 9900 may come later this year
    • RIM Working on 10" PlayBook, and larger BlackBerry devices for next year
I was able to see a live demo of Playbook 2.0 and everything was working smooth and crisp. So the final product should not be disappointing. I also got to see the new Bluetooth keyboard and case for the Playbook and they both look amazing. Overall big things happening in the world of BlackBerry. 2012 is looking like the year of the BlackBerry.
