The new BlackBerry Curve 9310 is officially coming to the shelves of Verizon Wireless stores across the USA. The 9310 is similar to it's cousin, the 9320, but this model will be CDMA enabled for the Verizon network. I for one like to see BlackBerry on Big Red's list again as they are the biggest selling cell provider in North America. Hopefully this will give RIM a nice boost through the winter months until we see the BlackBerry 10 launch. The device will be available to purchase for only $49.99 after $50 mail-in rebate. Here are a few more details about the 9310 device:

    • 3.2-megapixel camera – easily share pictures and video with friends through text, BBM, Facebook and Twitter
    • VZ Navigator capabilities for customers to receive audible turn-by-turn directions to millions of points of interest and share directions with others
    • On-device Parental Controls – customers can grant as little or as much access to the Internet, social networking and messaging as they see appropriate. Create a select list of contacts for both incoming and outgoing calls
    • microSD™ card slot with support for up to 32 GB

Say it ain't so Thorsten....say it ain't so!!! Ok, let's get a grip here. Yes, it's true. RIM CEO Thorsten Heins uses a Android phone. A Samsung Galaxy S III to be precise. And really, why shouldn't he? He needs to keep in touch with the competition and what they're doing. Innovation comes from all areas and keeping tabs on what your competition is doing with their products is a necessity. Thorsten also said in an interview with CIO.com that he has used an iPhone in the past.

Really, this is nothing earth shattering. Even Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak admits to have used a BlackBerry in the past. All in all, using the competition's phones surely does make sense.

While Alec Saunders isn't making up parody songs for BlackBerry 10, he loves to do some myth busting on app development for BlackBerry. One of these myths is that there aren't hardly any apps for BlackBerry. This is just not true. Via the BlackBerryDev Blog, Victoria Berry shares with us a few major stats regarding apps, including a major 3 billions apps downloaded milestone!

Three billion app downloads averages out to over 2.5 million downloads each day. What’s even more important – and impressive – is that the number of daily downloads continues to increase. It took 786 days to reach the one billion mark, 210 days to reach two billion, and only 176 days to reach the three billion number. I should also note that this number does not include apps downloaded from third party BlackBerry app stores, or those pushed internally at companies around the world, or those downloaded directly from the web.
Special thanks is due to the over 28,000 BlackBerry App World vendors and the BlackBerry App World storefront team. BlackBerry App World has continued to grow steadily with more than 90,000 applications now up for sale (we know other platforms use other metrics like submitted, or approved, but we prefer the more tangible “up for sale”).
Congrats to BlackBerry for this great milestone! Let us know what your favorite BlackBerry apps are in the comments.

On the tail of a column written by The Globe and Mail on Tuesday about the latest news surrounding RIM, G&M asked their readers what they thought were the most important questions to ask CEO, Thorsten Heins. G&M picked through the hundreds of questions sent in, and then compiled the top 10 list to submit to Thorsten. Iain Marlow, a writer for G&M has tweeted today that CEO Heins plans to answer each and every one of these 10 questions.

While advertising is a crucial part of sustaining many sites, it can only go so far before it starts to affect that site's user-base. Today, Yahoo! and Facebook have made peace in court, all patent suits have been dropped, but only with a new agreement - to bring you more ads! Yep, as if you haven't had enough. Let's just hope that the next move isn't mandatory ads on 3rd party Facebook or Yahoo! apps, or we may be seeing the native Facebook for BlackBerry app littered with em'. The race is on once again to our fellow Filipino BlackBerry Developers as PinoyBBDev is going to have their 2nd PinoyBBDev Hackathon this coming August 4-5 2012. This event aims not only to establish awareness about different technologies in creating applications for BlackBerry, but also to showcase the Filipino talent locally and across the globe.

This year's hackathon will focus more on the technologies supported by the upcoming operating system for BlackBerry PlayBook and BlackBerry 10 such as:
