Thread: What do you want the first QNX device to look like? [fan made picture]

Before you all get excited, this is NOT a real BlackBerry device. This is a fan's rendition of what they think the first QNX device should look like that was found in the CB forums. It did get me thinking though, if I could design the first BlackBerry QNX device, what would it be like? Would it be full touchscreen? Would it have a keyboard? What kind of camera(s) would it have?

Personally, I think a Mini-PlayBook looking BlackBerry would be perfect. I love my PlayBook and having a front and back facing cameras is a must for any new phone in 2011. I would love to see RIM attempt to incorporate the bezel gestures onto a BlackBerry smartphone without it affecting screen size too much as well. If this were the case, I think a full touchscreen device would work extremely well in the new QNX line.

As a fan of the Torch 9810 though, I am partial to also having a physical QWERTY keyboard on the device. I've never owned a full touchscreen phone and can't imagine ever not having a keyboard to type on. It's obvious Research In Motion will be taking a huge risk whichever way they decide to go in terms of the form factor of this future device.

Id Like to see something unique in design like the Torch was. Even more I would like to have the full BlackBerry experience that I have now with some major hardware upgrades. Im talking like 2GB of RAM, and a Dual-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor, Mali-400MP GPU, Exynos chip set. One can dream cant they?

Would it also be too "Apple-y" to want the charging port to be placed at the bottom of the phone instead of randomly on the left side?

What I would want to see out of a QNX phone is:

A 4-5" SurePress screen with on/off option

Use of recently filed patent for a customizable physical keyboard but adjust it for virtual styling. (Think sliding keys to match up with any previous styled physical keyboard or your own placement choice)

High-end Multi-core processors

Front and rear top of the line HD cameras (5mp front 12 rear)

Custom/interchangeable parts (including but not limited to keyboard sliding attachments)

The most efficient and long-lasting battery

Multi-SD and SIM card slots

BlackBerry phones have always catered to the user's preference. Thus the multiple form factors. Grant the businesses and consumers the ability to pick, choose, and have RIM custom build every aspect of their new purchase.

I think they may shoot for this. If they want the device to act like the PlayBook it will need some power. I hope it will be a multitasking guru.

They should do a full touch model and a QWERTY model. Two phones, that's it. No more spreading out refresh devices, just focus on a couple.
