Dakota (Magnum) photo surfaces on Twitter. But is it an old prototype?

What is this I see? It looks a lot like a BlackBerry 9000. But wait, where's the trackball? Yep that's correct; it's a touchscreen device with a full QWERTY keyboard. This is what appears to be the rumored Dakota (Magnum) device in all its glory. But before you get all excited about the sexy looks of it, keep in mind this is obviously an older prototype. It's not known for sure yet if the final product will be lacking a trackpad or not.

Last night Twitter user @cellguru posted these pics of the device that many of us are anxious to see. But notice that the design is much like the older Bold 9000 device. The Dakota will almost definitely be released with the looks of the newer style BlackBerry devices. But who cares, right? I'm just excited to see this phone...period. Imagine a world where keyboard and touchscreen users can coexist. It's Dakota and it appears that we might not have to wait all that long for it to become a reality. I'm really looking forward to seeing some more recent photos. I would love to own this device!

Looks pretty sweet, although I am still (and I know I will get blasted for this) not a fan of the full qwerty keyboard on any device blackberry or otherwise. So I think the keyboard will just get in the way of all the touchscreen fun. Will be interested to see what kind of division there will be between the the touchscreen if it clicks and the keyboard. The physical keys on the 9530/9500 were awkward because of the gap, the keys always felt wiggly.

Hopefully the integrate the menu and back buttons with the keyboard. That way we could have a little more screen real estate

I have to agree with terribL T. The idea of a keypad/touchscreen combo is appealing, but not if the screen isn't any bigger. Plus, aside from it not having a trackpad, looks like any other new BlackBerry model.

I personally think its a fake, for one reason, look at the screen it looks like the entire thing is intergrated even in to the ear piece. Now if this is a old prototype then the touch screen technology would be something like the storm. And I don't see making a phone that the ear piece moves with the screen as you push it down, even a prototype

Maybe it's not click? Who knows. Can't wait to find out more details.

Sorry to spoil this, but the pictures to me just look like photoshop enhanced Bolds 9000...

just look at the pixels around the berry button for example - compare with the text above and the rest of the picture....

    its not fake...

1 week after these pictures launched a video of the phone came out by @CellGuru.

Its a sick phone, but is a discontinued prototype. We will only hope that they someday reopen the development of this phone and get it out to us. I would be the first to buy it...

Truthfully I would like this better than an iPhone'esque or G1'slider. To have the full QWERT keyboard but trhen to do basic functions like finger sweeping through pics or songs, and mutiltouch for zoon would be sweet. It would be the best of both worlds|!!!
