I had this very same issue recently. This is the suggestion that I got and it worked: Remove/unininstall the Desktop Manager and everthing else associated with it (apploader, etc) from your laptop. Then reinstall it.

Worked like a charm for me! Good luck and please post back.

Also, check the usb line that you are using and make sure that's it's a data capable type and not just for charging.

How would i know if its a charging cable only. Im using the cable that came with the device. The desktop manager is unable to connect and device manager says cannot mount "something of that nature"

    - - - Updated - - -

But ill try your advice now

    - - - Updated - - -

Have tried it now and it doesn't work, with desktop it says "A Problem Occured while trying to connect to your blackberry device" and under device manger it says" Internal - Volume not Mounted."

This is stressing now, have tried all advices from different forums, how do I check if its the cable or not? Or its my PC? Is there a special Driver software I should install on my PC, or how to uninstall this OS 2.1 and install maybe 2.0 and see if it will connect

Sounds like a registry issue caused by driver corruption. Try the advice from Harmeling68, then perform a registry clean using Ccleaner, System Mechanic or something similar before reinstalling the desktop manager.

This was sent to me from RIM and it worked for me. I think that will work with out any drivers on pc.

    1. From the BlackBerry PlayBook home screen, select the settings icon.
    2. Select Storage and Sharing.
    3. Toggle Wi-Fi Sharing to ON.
    4. Tap Properties to verify network identification information. (PlayBook name, password etc)
    5. From a Windows® based computer on the same network as the BlackBerry PlayBook, navigate to the IP address of the BlackBerry PlayBook which can be found under Settings > About > Network.
      1. On a Windows computer, open the Run dialog box (shortcut of Windows Key + R) and type file:\\127.1.1.1 or \\127.1.1.1 (where 127.1.1.1 should be replaced with the actual IP address of the BlackBerry PlayBook)

    6. Once the device is connected to the computer, navigate to the media folder which contains several sub-folders such as documents, music, photos, videos, etc, the BlackBerry PlayBook user can then move files between the computer and these folders.

This is a good workaround, a tad slower, but it works if you have a wifi network that you can use.

    Connection to PC

I also had this "volume" problem when trying to connect to PC. Solved by BlackBerry support. I think it was to do with versions of NET program in Windows itself and ensuring the correct ones were operational in the settings for the PC's network adapter. Sorry but cannot remember more.

This is just due to may be your pc tool was older version. You can download latest version of desktop manager software directly from blackberry site and install in your pc and follow the instructions given by software. Link is as given below:
