How To Setup Multiple Email Accounts On BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0

With the release of BlackBerry PlayBook tablet OS 2.0, native email and PIM (personal information management) apps are now included. The new Messages app offers a universal inbox and tightly integrates with the Contacts and Calendar apps as well as social networks to give you a BlackBerry communications experience that you’ll love on your BlackBerry tablet!

Using these apps, you can set up multiple email accounts in addition to Enterprise email - protected by BlackBerry Balance technology – which means you’ll have access to both personal and work information in one location.

To help get you started with managing your various email accounts, here are answers to some frequently-asked questions about the Messages app in BlackBerry PlayBook tablet OS 2.0.

    Q:
Can I send messages through my social networking accounts such as Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn in addition to sending and receiving email?

    A:
Of course you can! Simply add these accounts to the Messages app, and you’ll notice an icon with two arrows pointing up that appears in the bottom right corner. Tap on this icon to expand it and you’ll be able to specify which service you’d like to use to send a message.

Q: How can I change the default account that is used for new messages and calendar invitations?

    A:
If you have multiple accounts and services integrated, you can specify what default address to use with your Messages and Calendar apps. To do this, complete the steps below:
    1. Tap “Settings” > “Accounts”
    2. Tap “Default Account”
    • To change the default address you use to send email messages, in the Email drop-down list, tap an email address.
    • To change the default address you use to send calendar invitations, in the Calendar drop-down list, tap an email address.
Q: Do I need to use BlackBerry Bridge if I use the native apps?

    A:
You can still use BlackBerry Bridge app to access your email if desired. With BlackBerry Bridge and BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0, you also have the ability to select which items will be displayed on your BlackBerry tablet. For example, you could only allow access to BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) and the BlackBerry Bridge browser while preventing access to your email and other information on your BlackBerry smartphone. To learn how to do this, check out the User Guide for BlackBerry Bridge 2.0. With BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 your BlackBerry smartphone can also act as a remote control of your BlackBerry PlayBook tablet.

    Q:
Can I use a Bluetooth keyboard or my BlackBerry smartphone keyboard to compose emails on a BlackBerry PlayBook tablet?

    A:
Absolutely! If you are using a supported Bluetooth keyboard, you can use it while using the Messages app.
You also have the ability to use the new Remote Control feature introduced in BlackBerry Bridge 2.0, which lets you use your BlackBerry smartphone as a wireless mouse and keyboard. To learn how to use Remote Control, check out the User Guide for BlackBerry Bridge 2.0 – and keep an eye out for a blog post in the near future that explains all of the new features and enhancements.

    Q:
    Where are email attachments saved?

    A:
Any email attachments you view from the Messages app are automatically saved in the Downloads folder on the BlackBerry tablet. You can access these files with the File Manager app on your BlackBerry PlayBook tablet.

    Q:
How can I move files between the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet and my computer?

    A:
BlackBerry Desktop Software allows you to move or sync files between the Blackberry tablet and your computer. In addition, you can use Wi-Fi or USB Sharing to copy files to and from your BlackBerry PlayBook tablet.

    Q:
How do I refresh my messages list?

    A:
From the very top of your message list, drag down to initiate a check for new items that may not have been delivered yet. In the screenshot below, I tapped on Wed, Feb 15, 2012 then dragged my finger down, which triggered a refresh.

Q: How do I view subfolders of an email account I’ve set up?

    A:
By default, Messages is set to show you the “All Accounts” view. To view a specific mailbox subfolder, tap the switch accounts button (in the red box below) then select the account you want to view.

When the mailbox appears, tap on the folder icon (in the red box below) to see the subfolders, then tap on the one you’d like to view.

Q: I can’t see items in a folder. Where are they?

    A:
By default, only the Inbox, Sent Items and Outbox folders are synced. To view messages in other folders, you might need to refresh the folder. To do this, simply drag from the very top of the list to refresh the folder.

Now that you are familiar with the Messages app, start exploring the available features - and if you have any questions or feedback, please let us know by leaving a comment!

Hello kadzie, I was having the same issues as you, try this...

Just make sure that once you first enter in your Yahoo email and password that you then click on Advanced Setup.

To add a Yahoo Email account:

    - On the Home Screen, click on the Options at the top right corner of the System tray
    - Click on Accounts
    - Click on Add New Account
    - Click on Email, Calendar and Contacts
    - Enter a valid Email Account (for example, user01@yahoo.com)
    - Enter a valid Password. Click the Show Password checkbox to ensure the password is correct.
    - Click Advanced Set Up
    - On the Account Integration screen, the Description field is optional, but can be filled in for clarity if multiple accounts are created on the BlackBerry PlayBook.
    - Username and Email Address fields should both be the email address that was entered above.
    - Password is the password that was entered above.
    - Server Address field should show imap.mail.yahoo.com on Port 993 with the Use SSLswitch set to ON.
    - SMTP Username should be the email address that was entered above.
    - SMTP Password is the password that was entered above.
    - SMTP Server Address may default to smtp.mail.yahoo.com. It can also besmtp.broadband.rogers.com.
    - SMTP Port is 465.
    - SMTP Use SSL switch should be set to ON.
    - Use push if supported should be set to ON.
    - Sync Interval can be changed with these values : 5 Minutes, 15 Minutes, 30 Minutes, 1 Hour, 2 Hours, 4 Hours, 24 Hours, or Manual. The default is 5 Minutes.
    - Amount to Sync can be changed with these values : 7 Days, 14 Days, 30 Days, or No Limit.
    - Click Save to finish.

You may not have to change any of the settings above. But for some reason saving in advanced settings will connect your Yahoo email. Let me know if you have anymore issues.
