    Hello mcguiver, and welcome to

Sorry to hear that you feel like that, using the best and easiest side loading tool, DDPB, to bring Android applications to the BlackBerry PlayBook which was unheard of last year.

It's only because of RIM's feature of enabling Development Mode that this is all made possible for many PlayBook users who realize that the BlackBerry PlayBook is something very special to several users now, especially myself, I love my PlayBook.

Obviously, everyone has their own personal experiences and opinions regarding the BlackBerry PlayBook, but not everyone has the patience, understanding, or the technical skills either to use tools to access many other features of this wonderful tablet.

    Thank you.

Perhaps you could explain more about side loading and what it is. I use skype on my other machine and find hte IMO only does voice thats removes alot of users. Perhaps I am missign something.....that I can learn. I do find the wireless connections varies a lot in singnal strenght from the same location in my house and at times the touch screen does not work. I have to reboot the machine to get it to work correctly.....perhaps some tech insight would help me....thanks kindly

Thank you Joe for the additional information for our member, mcguiver.

We can always learn new things, and improve other things we know how to do now, but better.

Regarding wireless connections, I sincerely believe that when people have optimized their wireless connection, they can have a much more positive experience with their BlackBerry PlayBook.

A lot of PlayBook owners have always wondered how to get the most out of their wireless connections.

When I have some time this weekend, I plan to complete a (How To) achieve faster wireless connections.....keep an eye out on

Hello mcguiver, sorry to hear you feel this way about Skype not being natively available for the BlackBerry PlayBook.

Many BlackBerry websites have exhaustively hounded @Skype @SkypeSupport inquiring when Skype would be finally available on the BlackBerry PlayBook platform, and despite all the tweets, emails, letters, other methods were not convincing Skype to support the PlayBook at that current moment.

One day, out of the blue, I get this tweet from @SkypeSupport to my Twitter account, specifically states that @Skype has, "No Plans for PlayBook Compatible Skype App".

Their tweet, which caused a massive uproar, back on April 18, 2012, had many BlackBerry users obviously peeved off, and threatened to disable, and/or close their Skype accounts.
Article: Skype Support Tweets "No Plans For PlayBook Compatible Skype App"

Users have this misconception that RIM never tried to get @Skype on board, and that, ladies and gentlemen, is 100% false.

As a matter of fact, @Skype even attended the BlackBerry 10 Jam in California, which I have provided the article for you or anyone else who wishes to view it below.

So, mcguiver, I hope this post I have written for you will give you a bit of insight, and hope that one day, Skype will have a change of heart, and develop a PlayBook application in the future, and will ultimately make you understand that we, the BlackBerry users, have never given up on fighting for premium quality (native) applications for the BlackBerry platform.

    Thank you.

I don't use Skype much at all, even on my laptop, so it's not really something I have a vested interest but now I'm just curious. I know this is a very old and well discussed topic. There was a reference to sideloading above and we know Skype is out of BB and PB except possibly they have enough interest to attend BB World/Jam in regards to BB10, which will make it to PB at some point. I've wondered why we can't just sideload skype for Android. Somehow I don't think the BAR file worked, but my memory is vague on this one. If it can be done, it should be pretty easy to write an article on step by step how to install Skype on a PB.

You have to download it from your laptop and then transfer it to your phone via data cable. It takes much loading time so download it in your free time. Cheers guys! All the Best in your downloading.

Are you saying that the Skype BAR file now works on PB? Also for audio/video or just text chat?

hey sheldonbk, disregard what jhon corner said above you, obviously, he/she has no idea what they're saying.

Until someone proves it via screen shot, video, and/or in person, Skype only works via chat feature on the BlackBerry PlayBook.

    Thank you.

In regards to Skype, I'll chime in and mention that it uses native libraries for the camera. Therefore it would never work unless RIM puts support in for those native android libraries.

Yea, unfortunately it won't work well until we see a Android player update that supports more native Android, or until we see a native app.

You can also use new app for BB. It is free VoIP softphone- Vippie. Now available on appworld blackberry site. for me is more comfortable to use. You don't have to look for your friends using this app, it just show you who has it.

    Faceflow

www.faceflow.com is a cross o/s programme that offers the same as skype but with the added bonus of conference calls. The programme is free and can be accessed though your browser. Both need to join, as in skype. Playbook to PC, Android, iphone. PC, Android, iphone to Playbook. The developers regularly post updates and it would appear that there will soon be an app for all the platforms.
