Video: How To Jailbreak Your PlayBook And Install Android Marketplace

Let's give a huge thanks to YouTuber @MapleLeafsVideos for making this video tutorial on how to Jailbreak your PlayBook and install the Android Marketplace. Please keep in mind that if you are not comfortable with this process we recommend you do not try and install. BlackBerryOS.com is not responsible if you damage your device. With that being said, the tutorial details are below:

*A few steps may be unnecessary. But if you follow these steps. You will have a jailbroken playbook along with the android running with marketplace* - *A better version of this video will be uploaded on Sunday, 12/11, on my new channel... youtube.com/everythingplaybook*

    OS 2 Beta: https://bdsc.webapps.blackberry.com/...et20/register/

    DingleBerry 2.11: Dingleberry jailbreak

    PuttyGen: http://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/...6/puttygen.exe

    WinSCP: Downloading winscp435setup.exe :: WinSCP

Step 8: @1:54 in Shell box copy and paste in "/tmp/setuidgid root /bin/sh"

    CyanogenMod7: Latest Version/Google Apps - CyanogenMod Wiki
    CyanogenMod7 Direct Link: http://cmw.22aaf3.com/gapps/gapps-gb...828-signed.zip

    Step17: "cd(SPACE)/apps/sys.android.(PRESS TAB).ns/native/scripts"
    Step17: "./android-player-cmd.sh(SPACE)kill-android-core.sh"

Download link for Playbook_Tools.zip: Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

Download link for Launcher.bar: Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

Useful Tips: I finished the process and the instructions are very precise and they have to be followed exactly as you show the pictures. I have some feedback that may help others not to trip in the future. at 1:47 the user has to make sure the protocol is at scp. It does not come to scp by default and not having that selected correctly is confusing when trying to set up the scp shell. Min 3:36 I would instruct the user to go to playbook and tap the dismiss button.

Here is a second video that will help you get the Android Marketplace installed...

Great video. I followed all the instructions, rebooted, and .....

Nothing? What should I find? How do I run Android apps or the player.

Rooting seems solid, copied the files per the video. ran the two commands in the ssh window, used the pb-installer to put in a launcher. what next?

    Thanks in advance!

    Dave
running 2.0.0.4869, apparently rooted, but nowhere to go from here.

Looks like I'm a day late and a dollar short. OS 2.0.0.6149 can't be rooted and apparently 2.0.0.4869 isn't available for download anymore.

OK, So I managed to get my Playbook rooted and have Market installed. I couldn't find this information posted here so I thought I would share what I did to get my device to 4869 so that it could be rooted. I take no credit for any of this - all credit goes to BourneID at crackberry. The instructions below assume that your device is already at 6149 and are instructing you to do a downg

First download the 4869 bar files from here:

    Code:
    https://rapidshare.com/#!download|222tl2|3087118570|2.0.0.4869.rar|518165|R~B3B63AAED3D507B79DA2445199082984|0|0
    Then follow the below instructions:

    1. Rename "qcfm.os.com.qnx.coreos.qcfm.os.sdk.4869.79475 .sig ned.bar" from the RAR you downloaded above to "qcfm.os.com.qnx.coreos.qcfm.os.sdk.6149.92203 .sig ned.bar"
    2. On 6149. Do a complete Backup of you Device (For later) with the Desktop Manager Software
    3. Downgrade to 1.0.8.6067. (Switch off the device, use Desktop Manager Software)
    4. Sign up at the Blackberry page for OS2.0 Beta.
    5. IMPORTANT! User the Desktop Manager Software to update your device to 2.0.0.6149. During Step1 (Downloading) your Desktop manager will download the files to C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Desktop\Loader Cache. Now to the important part
    6. RIGHT AFTER the Desktop Manager Software downloaded the file "qcfm.os.com.qnx.coreos.qcfm.os.sdk.6149.92203 .sig ned.bar" and "sys.android.bar" copy your renamed "qcfm.os.com.qnx.coreos.qcfm.os.sdk.6149.92203 .sig ned.bar" from above and the "sys.android.bar" to the Local Cache folder. (Do not wait untill all bar files are downloaded, switch with 4869 files right after the individual bar file is completely downloaded)
    7. Now wait untill the download is completed. The Installer will install your 4869 bar files onto the device.
    8. Voila. You are on 4869. Now you can root with dingleberry.
Once this was done I was able to root my device using the first video in post 1 and I used ice2921's instructions found here - How To Install Full Android Market On BlackBerry PlayBook After DingleBerry Root for installing Marketplace.

Now the one thing that I found when my device was at 4869 this way was that my browser didn't work - my bookmarks wouldn't come up and I couldn't browse to any pages. To fix that I upgraded again to 6149 but let the upgrade go as normally. After doing that the device is still rooted but you have to get Marketplace working again. To do that, follow the below instructions, courtesy again of BourneID.

    1. Activate Developer mode
    2. Dingle SSH to the device.
    3. Connect with WinSCP using the devuser and the password you set
    4. Copy GApps system folder to /accounts/1000/shared/downloads/market/
    5. Go to DingleSSH Shell
    6. cd /apps/sys.android."press tab".ns/native/scripts/
    7. ./android-player-cmd.sh ./kill-android-core.sh
    8. cp -Rf /accounts/1000/shared/downloads/market/system/* /system/
    9. cd /system/app/
    10. rm SetupWizard.apk
    11. cd /apps/sys.android."press tab".ns/nativ/scripts/
    12. ./android-player-cmd.sh ./kill-android-core.sh
    13. Back in WinSCP you can delete the market folder again (Mark & F8)
I hope this helps anyone that might have been in the same predicament as me.

You will need to use the DingleBerry jailbreak tool to downgrade.

Hi soufmadridi, this video is a bit old, so I can't verify if this process will still work, proceed with caution.

Perhaps another forum member will be able to verify if this process is still valid.

The jailbreak process is a bit tedious at this point, but can be done. There is no up to date tutorial at this time.
