OK, So I managed to get my Playbook rooted and have Market installed. I couldn't find this information posted here so I thought I would share what I did to get my device to 4869 so that it could be rooted. I take no credit for any of this - all credit goes to BourneID at crackberry. The instructions below assume that your device is already at 6149 and are instructing you to do a downg
First download the 4869 bar files from here:
Code:
https://rapidshare.com/#!download|222tl2|3087118570|2.0.0.4869.rar|518165|R~B3B63AAED3D507B79DA2445199082984|0|0
Then follow the below instructions:
- Rename "qcfm.os.com.qnx.coreos.qcfm.os.sdk.4869.79475 .sig ned.bar" from the RAR you downloaded above to "qcfm.os.com.qnx.coreos.qcfm.os.sdk.6149.92203 .sig ned.bar"
- On 6149. Do a complete Backup of you Device (For later) with the Desktop Manager Software
- Downgrade to 1.0.8.6067. (Switch off the device, use Desktop Manager Software)
- Sign up at the Blackberry page for OS2.0 Beta.
- IMPORTANT! User the Desktop Manager Software to update your device to 2.0.0.6149. During Step1 (Downloading) your Desktop manager will download the files to C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Desktop\Loader Cache. Now to the important part
- RIGHT AFTER the Desktop Manager Software downloaded the file "qcfm.os.com.qnx.coreos.qcfm.os.sdk.6149.92203 .sig ned.bar" and "sys.android.bar" copy your renamed "qcfm.os.com.qnx.coreos.qcfm.os.sdk.6149.92203 .sig ned.bar" from above and the "sys.android.bar" to the Local Cache folder. (Do not wait untill all bar files are downloaded, switch with 4869 files right after the individual bar file is completely downloaded)
- Now wait untill the download is completed. The Installer will install your 4869 bar files onto the device.
- Voila. You are on 4869. Now you can root with dingleberry.
Once this was done I was able to root my device using the first video in post 1 and I used ice2921's instructions found here - How To Install Full Android Market On BlackBerry PlayBook After DingleBerry Root for installing Marketplace.
Now the one thing that I found when my device was at 4869 this way was that my browser didn't work - my bookmarks wouldn't come up and I couldn't browse to any pages. To fix that I upgraded again to 6149 but let the upgrade go as normally. After doing that the device is still rooted but you have to get Marketplace working again. To do that, follow the below instructions, courtesy again of BourneID.
- Activate Developer mode
- Dingle SSH to the device.
- Connect with WinSCP using the devuser and the password you set
- Copy GApps system folder to /accounts/1000/shared/downloads/market/
- Go to DingleSSH Shell
- cd /apps/sys.android."press tab".ns/native/scripts/
- ./android-player-cmd.sh ./kill-android-core.sh
- cp -Rf /accounts/1000/shared/downloads/market/system/* /system/
- cd /system/app/
- rm SetupWizard.apk
- cd /apps/sys.android."press tab".ns/nativ/scripts/
- ./android-player-cmd.sh ./kill-android-core.sh
- Back in WinSCP you can delete the market folder again (Mark & F8)
I hope this helps anyone that might have been in the same predicament as me.
