ESPN Goals and Sky Sports Football Centre App on Playbook?

Newbie here, so hi to all Forum users!

I have a BB Torch and the above apps are the 2 i use the most. I have recently purchased a PB and of course, assumed that these would be available also. Looked in BB World but they are not there? Why would this be? Am really pleased with the PB but its disappointing that my 2 fave apps arent available. Anyone shed any light on this?

    Cheers in advance

    Jim

Hey Jim! Welcome to the forums!

Believe it or not, this is still somewhat of a common occurrence with apps between different OSes and devices. Some apps that are available for the PlayBook aren't available on BB smartphones and vice versa. Even if you were to look at iOS, for example, Instagram is available for the iPod Touch and iPhone but not for the iPad.

Every developer has to make the decision of if/when they will put out a version compatible with different software and devices. I wouldn't doubt that as the PlayBook becomes more popular and BB 10 devices are announced (which will be running similar software to the PlayBook) that more developers will make their current smartphone-only compatible apps available on the PlayBook.

I've personally emailed, tweeted at, and tried to get in contact with these developers to let them know of the desire for their apps on a certain device so I encourage you to do the same!

Thanks for the reply, its not too much of an issue as i can access BBC Sports etc but ESPN Goals was handy as i could see all the goals without having to wait for Match of the Day! You say i have to contact ESPN directly to see if they can develop this for PB?

On another note, as i mentioned im a newbie to PB, and i have heard there may be an update soon which will allow android apps to run? Is that right?

    Welcome to jamiem1976

I also own a PlayBook, and I have searched for ESPN, which search results shows me 10 apps are available for the Playbook.
I have supplied the results from my search, here's the link:

    Search results for espn (PlayBook)

Some applications will work for your BlackBerry Torch, and some applications will work for the PlayBook.

There are several factors involved before developers invest their time, and effort into making these apps for us, including feedback from RIM, and other users.

    Hope this helps you

That's great to hear Jamiem1976, when I bought my BlackBerry PlayBook, I have different needs, and wants, just like others.
Some people just love their apps and games, some users love to watch HD videos and listen to music on their Playbook (me), and to me that makes me totally happy.

How do you watch movies on there? I would like to use mine to watch movies too, and for the little one to use for long journeys, is there a guide on how to do this?

There sure is, I have found this thread which may assist you further in obtaining HD video on your BlackBerry PlayBook just like I have and hundreds more, if not thousands of users, love this method.

excellent i will give this a whirl later today. So i must be able to transfer my movies from pc to PB with little to no fuss? I only have the 16gb version so i am wary of loading too much incase it interferes with performance.

Sorry for the delay, downloaded YouTube videos in HD 98% of the time averging size is 45MB-80MB for a 720P, and 80-110MB for a 1080P resolution video.
On a 16GB PlayBook you have plenty of space left, even after 25-30 videos.
As for movies, well that's going to run you around 500MB-1200MB (1.2GB) per movie converted from DvD depending on what settings you use.

Hey Jamie so about this specifically, yes that is correct. The PlayBook Tablet OS 2.0, which according to some pretty trusted rumors will be released on Feb 17th to the public, will contain the Android Player which is essentially an app that allows you to access Android apps and other Android specific features. Many people have gotten this already on their device as developers have been giving access before anyone else to be able to use a 2.0 beta version.

    It's definitely coming!

I think this may have answered my last post! I used Android on my HTC phone, maybe its me but i wasnt overly excited by it. Maybe i just havent downloaded the correct apps to make it worthwhile. If you have any essential recommendations i would love to hear them!
