MetroPCS Sporting The Curve 8530!

MetroPCS is stepping up their game in the smartphone department. They've now added the BlackBerry Curve 8530 to their list of smartphones. They are offering the the Curve 8530 with a low flat-rate $60 a month plan which includes Unlimited Talk, Text, Web, Data, Email and GPS. I had MetroPCS for a while previously to owning my AT&T Curve 8520 and I will admit, if you live in a south eastern state, then it is a great and reliable service.

I've been hoping for a while that all of the big companies would stop penny pinching and do exactly as MetroPCS, Cricket, and Virgin Mobile do which is offer their plans as a flat-rate fee with true unlimited services. However, I do think if people continue to pay for the services they offer now, they won't have any reason to drop their rates; It's business.

The disappointing thing about this is that it looks like they don't let you switch 8530's from other carriers over to metro. I got an 8530 from sprint and when I took it to metro they told me they don't flash blackberrys from other carriers, that their flashing software won't allow them to do that, and even if they did, it would mess up internet and messaging (I should have asked how does he know that if he can't flash it, but I forgot...). The guy even told me they might have that policy so people would buy metro 8530's instead of just switching them over from other carriers, which I think is dumb. Unlike the typical smartphone user, I don't have the money to just switch phones when I want...

rsanchez1 I am the same way, smartphones are a bit overpriced now that they've become the stepping stone for a cell phone. You have to TRY not to get a smartphone now a days, compared to the opposite not too long ago.

There are ways around it, take it from me, I've done it :P Hop on craigslist and if you're willing to pay 50-90$ to get your phone flashed, a third party can do it. It is not "code" to do this and in some states its even illegal (because you're breaking the phone's policy & agreement not to tamper with any of the software in a unethical way). The company can flash it, I've also known insiders who would do it for me, but its pricey to do it that way.

Another method would be to find someone on Metro switching over to Sprint, and just toss up a trade, I've also done this :P

You could flash it yourself with a program such as QPST.. Although I wouldn't recommend it if you are a novice user...
