Thread: Any hope for the 8830 WE?

Has anyone heard if there is supposed to be any further software releases for the 8830 WE phones? I have two of them on my account and I'm starting to fear I will always be stuck with 4.5.

I am unsure if you will see anything newer.. considering technically the tour replaced the 8830... all you can do is hang out and hope but I wouldnt hope too hard.

Time to upgrade, the 8830 will not see anything past 4.5 OS as it does not meet memory requirements.

4.5.0.175 is the latest you will find for the 8830.

As Bla1ze said, there will not be 5.0 release for the 8830. Pretty much any device model released before the 8330 will not see 5.0.

It's really not that big of a deal. 4.5 actually works pretty darn well... like many of you, however, I'm an upgrade junkie and always like the latest and greatest.

I already have a tour and love it, but I have two other 8830's on my account. To be honest, I would like to upgrade the other phones as they are eligible for new upgrades on my Sprint account. The problem is, Sprint offers the discount as a rebate and after going through the mess I just went through trying to get my rebate validated on my current Tour (another story for another day), I really don't think it's worth it. ....not worth getting a Tour, you ask? ...yes, honestly not worth the amount of hassle and hours out of my day.

Businesses don't usually have to do the rebate thing because of the amount and frequency of purchases. Consumer accounts usually won't get that treatment, especially at Sprint.

I have NEVER upgraded my 8830 because it is set up by my company, can I do the upgrade to 4.5.0.175 like I would my personal phone or does my company have to do it?

you should be able to do it you will just need to re-register with the BES.. so make sure you know your password
