Whats with all of the RIM app updates? Hmmmm.

I was just thinking, isn't it kind of strange that RIM is pushing all these new updates out? Are they just prepping for OS 5.0 or is the release of 5.0 closer than we thought? Or have they just admitted defeat and updated the apps for all of us "leakers"? Whatever the reason, it's obvious somethings up. What do you guys think?

I agree but I think they have just come to accept that the "leakers" have it, honestly.

That's what I'm leaning toward too. But why would they help us out when they are mad that the leaks got out in the first place? You would think they would want us not to want to use 5.0. But as of last night, they will have a lot more people using the leak. I sure wish I knew what was being discussed behind closed doors at RIM:laugh2:

Personally I think that they don't want a bad rep. Like if everyone said that FB, Myspace, IM clients didnt work others would hesitate to buy it. I know 5.0 will be official after so long but does other people know that?

Good point, but VZW released 4.7.1.53 also(I know it was pulled back). Wonder why Verizon would even bother? Of course they will be the last one to release 5.0, so there may be a bigger gap than with the other carriers

I think they aren't mad at all. To me what would be upsetting is all of us not having internal tools instlled. With the info from that. They could get alot of valuable data. Then they could have a better chance finding issues before the inital release of a 5.0 os. Just think of all the free beta testing going on. I think its all don eintentionally. Leak it read the forums..give the updates and re read the forums. Then use the data in the lab!

It is what Directv does already

They were talking about this in another thread somewhere and were talking about how BIS 2.8 is compatible only with 5.0 device software.. thats where I was going with that.

With every leak the comes out, it does cost RIM money. So really, it isnt free testing with that in mind, and believe me, I would test for them for free

No biggie.. was paying attention for once lol.. Just in my opinion it could be due to that... if BIS does roll out before the end of the year we will need a 5.0 os, but the problem with this is... what about the curves? and pearls and pearl flips? This is going to be a hard one to do.. will those devices still be compatible

It would cost them alot more money if they weren't out. It costs Directv money too, but in the long run it save time and is great data. That being said I could be wrong. It's just my opinion.

one big way is the man hours spent trying to pull all the leaks, the other would be the fact that like when BBM 5.0 leaked their servers werent ready for that bandwidth... they had to spend money to make it work before they were ready.

The bandwidth was there already. They just had to allocate it. Yes they spent time pulling some of the stuff off apparently, but they wouldn't be building these OS and Apps with out knowing what they were gonna need money and bandwidth wise.

If they spend that much time trying to stop the leaks maybe they should embrace the power fo te users here and at other forums. Post it up let them read the issues. Maybe the programers and evelopers can learn something . Anyways have a great day

    My $.02

Two of the biggest device launches in RIM's history are almost upon us - Storm 2 & Bold 2. Both are being released with 5.0 official firmware. They had to go ahead and get all the 3rd party and internal apps compatible so they could package everything up and be prepared to manufacture and ship working production units. By getting them ready and releasing them now they have a small window of time to re-release with necessary bug fixes, etc. based on feedback from the testers and leak users. That way they don't have millions of production devices sitting in warehouses with crappy or missing software. Again, only my opinion but it seems to make sense.
