I have a Blackberry Torch 9810 with OS 7.1.0.205 installed. I decided to try the WiFi calling feature today and it didn't work. I got the message "unable to complete call" each time I attempted to place a call. I doubled checked to insure I was connected to the internet via WiFi and I was. Still no success.
My service provider is Rogers Communications and they have not officially released OS 7.1 yet, and are still using OS 7.0.0.1328. Am I doing something wrong or is this an issue with the service provider not supporting the WiFi calling feature? I spoke with technical support at Rogers and was told that because OS 7.1.0.205 is not an official Rogers release they couldn't help me.

With regards to WiFi calling feature, I remember I posted that exact same issue somewhere on forums not too long ago with another member inquiring about the same issue as you.

Your BlackBerry Torch 9810 is an amazing device, and with an amazing "leaked" OS7.1.0.205, the WiFi calling feature is a mobile carrier feature that is supported by Rogers Wireless, but with certain requirements, which are:

Minimum Requirements

• Wi-Fi calling-compatible wireless device
• Subscription to a Wi-Fi calling plan
• A Wi-Fi connection

What Is Wi-Fi Calling

Wi-Fi calling enables you to make and receive unlimited local (based on the area code of your phone number) or Canada-wide voice calls anywhere you have Wi-Fi access within Canada (i.e., on campus, at a coffee shop, at work, at home, etc.) on your Wi-Fi calling (UMA) compatible device. When subscribed to a Wi-Fi calling add-on, any voice minutes you use with Wi-Fi calling are not deducted from the voice minute allocation in your voice plan.

Voice calls are seamlessly handed off between a Wi-Fi connection and the Rogers wireless network so if you start you call over a Wi-Fi connection and then leave the Wi-Fi connection, you can continue your call over the Rogers wireless network. Where there is no Wi-Fi connection, just use your mobile phone as you normally would.

I hope this clears up any confusion you have over WiFi calling with Rogers Wireless.

The wi-fi calling works great although it is not regularly needed being in a suburban area. However, does anybody know of an app or other fix for dropped calls when wandering away from my wi-fi coverage? I prefer to keep my wi-fi open when home, for app world,etc., but i have a tendancyto wander when on the phone. I receive a warning, but the call drops very quickly afterward. If there isnt an app, it would be a great idea for a developer! Thanks if anyone has a solution.
