Thread: GPS Problems?

Was wondering if anyone had issues with the GPS on their Storm functioning erratically? It seems like mine will vary one day to the next. I was using Poynt or Superpages yesterday without a problem. Today I can be standing outside in clear view of the sky and not get a GPS signal for any app I try.

I've verified GPS settings in Options, all set correctly....have done several batt pulls today as well. I am currently using Crackman's V6 and did a Swap-a-Radio to install .90.

I know that .90, .109, & .148 are supposedly the better radio codes.....does this also apply to GPS or are they totally exclusive of one another? I've had some issues with GPS being hit and miss on my Storm since I've had it, but today is the most problematic it's been.

They are mutually exclusive. GPS is controlled by Cod files (Java) not the SFI.

any opinions on one OS's gps over another or have they been pretty consistent for the most part?

I've seen polls and threads regarding best radios, but not sure I've seen anything about gps builds.....

Not really they have all been pretty consistent, for me that is.

I concur I don't use it very often but I try it out on every new OS and haven't seen a decline in performance.

I would have to agree. All the builds have been stable concerning the GPS function. I ran BBCv6 for three days however, I can't say that I took notice in the GPS. I know I ran it. That's routine for me to run all my apps after upgrading. Kind of a check and balance. I would try your GPS tomorrow and verify it against your findings that you are experiencing today.

Haven't seen a whole lot of variation in GPS performance across all of the OS I've had on my 9530 (including hybrids).
Wondering if you've tried BB Maps or Google Maps to see how they are playing. If they seem okay, you might want to delete poynt and reload a fresh download....just a thought. Hope you figure it out.

That's a good suggestion Toy.

This is kinda funny to see right at this time. I have been in St Louis for the last 4 days and used the GPS just about everyday without one issue. I am running v7 with the 132 sfi file and each time the gps nailed me within 3 meters. I cant really complain about that. I used it in multiple conditions, clear, cloudy and with thunderstorms and each time no issue. I would try a battery pull and possibly a reload with the 132 sfi file. I personally like the features of the 90 radio but cant deal with the quirks, and this may be one of them. Keep us posted

the only issues I've had with the .90 on the V6 have been a random reboot each day.....if it doesn't get any worse than that I will stick with it....everything has been super fast since I reloaded V6 and I am really digging it....

as far as the GPS...today was really strange as no app I ran (Poynt, Superpages, Google Maps) would even act like GPS was running, much less find me....

will see how it goes tomorrow and let you know...

okay....after playing around with this for the last day or so....

it appears that the GPS does not "kick in" if I'm anywhere around half battery or less....a full charge and I'm fine with GPS location for Poynt, Superpages, and Google Maps....

this is apparently an issue with the GPS hardware, not the apps, as I get the same results on all of them...

any idea if this is a battery problem or a device problem....don't see why it would be an OS problem.....should I look into getting a new phone?....not real thrilled with knowing my GPS doesn't work with less than half a battery.....

Did you visit Verizon with your GPS issue? If not, have you resolved the problem? Keep us posted.
