AT&T released the .600 for the Torch a few weeks ago and even being a little apprehensive about any AT&T update, I made the plunge. RIM's .600 OS is a rockin' update. Faster responses in accessing apps, closing apps, browser response, and web page responses. No issues with the battery life and it seems to be lasting just a bit longer, but I have not confirmed that as of yet, just a feeling.
Give it a try and I think that you will be satisfied.

I downloaded and installed 9780 OS 6.0.0.600 from O2 UK, but the Loader fails to recognize it. BBSAK also says "No OS found". I did delete the vendor file. What's up with that?

Sounds like something didn't download correctly. I would delete the OS from the computer and redownload it back to the computer.
If you haven't, go here, All In One Guide - How To Upgrade Your Device - with Pictures & Videos and give it a read thru. They are very good instructions. If you have already gone thru these instructions, then I would give it a go again. Like I said, delete the OS from your computer and then redownload it, using the VodafoneDE_9780_6.0.0.600 - Downloads - BlackBerryOS.com for your 9700.
