Thread: Will the Storm2 and OS6 Ever Meet?? Verizon doesn't Think So...

Recently I posted a rumor that BlackBerry OS6 was not going to hit CDMA devices until some time next year. This did not make go over well with some of our CDMA users. I know how much that hurt to read and I feel as though you may hate me even more after reading this.

This comes from a Gizmofusion.com reliable source, apparently Storm2 (9550) users will NEVER see OS6 for their device. Its appears that Verizon was testing OS6 on the 9550 Storm2 and has stopped their testing. It seems that the device does not have enough RAM to support OS6 and that is the major problem stopping OS6 from hitting the Storm2.

I don't what to think about this. Why would RIM send an OS to Verizon for testing if it knew it wouldn't work?

This isn´t acceptable. If RIM doesn´t support the 9550 with OS 6... this will be my LAST BB.
256 mb ram should be enough to run the OS 6!!!

The 9300 has 256Mb of Memory just like the Storm 2 and it will be able to run OS6 based on the platform it will launch with. (6.X as noted earlier, here ).


So I don't think buy the 256Mb is too little RAM excuse. If anything, I think its SurePress that may be the issue.

I guarantee you the touch version of OS6 needs more RAM then the TrackPad version for the 9300!!!!

I'm now pissed. This better be false. I've been a big supporter of Blackberry since i got my first blackberry. I've only had a storm 1 & 2 and loved them both. But to hear the coming of a new OS. I was very excited. After all this android hype I was excited to have an OS that could compete with those devices. By no means do i want to jump ship. I like the blackberry service but RIM has made me sour and feel like a fool. I will no longer brag about RIM nor will I persuade people to get blackberries. I just last week told my bother to get a storm 2. I told RIM is coming out with a new OS and that it was going to be nice. I maybe over exaggerated a bit. but told to go swap it for a droid x because he still had 30 days to exchange it. I feel like an *****. I've lost my confidence in RIM. I have an upgrade waiting on me. i've been holding out for the storm 3. but now it seems i might go to another phone. I want touch screen and I loved the surepress. but with rumors of storm 2 "refresh" device that has OS6 not sure I want to buy the same phone I have now or wait on the storm 3. hope i get impressed by RIM again otherwise ...... well i just hope they surprise me.

If this is true the 9550 will be my last BB. I will get an htc incredible or something similar.

Good bye my loved BB if Storm 2 does not get OS 6.0. Good bye RIM because they do not care their fans. All of Storm users feel disappointed about RIM. Can not acceptable. Sale both of Storm1 and 2 now!

What doesn't make sense to me is why would RIM come out with brand new devices with 256MB of RAM knowin that OS6 is around the corner? It just doesn't make sense... That's what I thought until I took a closer look at what RIM seems to be doing... RIM seems to already KNOW that the devices running 256MB of ram and lower wont be able to OS6. I could be wrong but I think RIM will be releasing the NEW ENTRY LEVEL BB devices running possibly a revamped OS5 and the NEW FLAGSHIP BB devices on thew OS6... Now take a look at the Storm 2. A few days ago "they" released a so-called SPECK of the Storm 3. Take a closer look and read the code name for the Storm 2: Odin REFRESH... Seems to me RIM will be re-releasing the Storm 2 with MORE everything and OS6 ready... Overall, it seems that all of us will eventually have to upgrade our devices. I think people that have the Storm 2 should get a BIG discount on a re-released device with more RAM. Come on RIM, stop being shady and support your loyal customers.

Yeah the Odin "Refresh" Article makes so much sense now. I thought it was weak specs for the storm 3. Now only to find out that they said "oops, guess we need a storm device that will run OS6". This really ruined my day. At least my brother is exchanging his brand new storm 2 for a droid X. I'll get to play with it and see if I can deal with an android. Really wanting to stick with RIM. Feels like They cheated on me. lol

Anybody ever tried to email RIM and realize u can't??? I did last night tryin to get some answers and it came right back to me... How whack is that??? lol

Touch Screen is sooo over rated!

Touch screen is a personal preference. My girl has a 9700 on ATT not only is she hard pressed for a 3g signal anywhere in the area but I hate having to use her phone the keyboard is too small to use with my fat thumbs and it is just awkward overall in my opinion.

Touch screen is the next generation of UI. To use you hands versus pressing keys? just like voice command it uses you natural methods of communication, speech and touch. I know everyone doesn't like touch screen phones or computers, but its not being over-rated when your improving the quality of the experience. You can look at a lot of things and see that they are striving to improve the experience. 3D movies, touch screen computers and phones. cars that park themselves, hands free accessories, and even cell phones in the beginning (you can talk to anyone regardless where you are just as if they were right next to you). It all about using your natural elements to interact with the things you use most. There's is no reason to call touch screens over rated. like it was just said "its preference". Just as if I slam phone with keys as being over rated just because in has buttons. Its just silly.
