Thread: Blackberry 6 May Not Hit CDMA Networks Till Next Year???

In a research note yesterday, Kaufman Bros. analyst Shaw Wu said, "BlackBerry 6, the next version of Research in Motion’s BlackBerry operating system, may not come out on CDMA networks like Sprint and Verizon until 2011". Seeing that over 80% of the world uses the GSM based networks, it would only make sense for RIM to focus their attention on GSM phone models first. Saving the CDMA models for a later date in time would be an unfortunate side effect for CDMA users.

We all know in our hearts that RIM has always favored the GSM technology over CDMA for a long time now. Personally I have always wondered why CDMA companies, which are only a few, have not made the switch to GSM yet. This is a prime example of how they are losing out on opportunities that device manufacturers have to offer. Companies like Verizon are now going to have to wait for BlackBerry 6 for more then a half year. That is more then 6 months after companies like AT&T, T-Mobile, Rodgers, etc... get their hands on it.

We will have to wait and see if these rumors turn our to be true or bogus... However they turn out, I know a load of Verizon fans will be quite upset with this post. All I can say is lets hope the rumors are wrong and you get your BlackBerry 6 sooner then later or you leave the Big Red and AT&T's GSM network.

Either way, lets not loose faith in RIM!

You are not wrong there... if it is true the CDMA bunch will be spitting blood!

Spitting blood would be an understatement...this whole rumor just pisses me off. If that happens, I'm done with RIM and Verizon forever.

I have no idea what the difference is between GSM and CDMA so I Googled it. After reading a handful of articles from different sources I just don't see how it will affect which networks this new OS goes on. Plus just from watching the video posted it seems like this BB 6 would go hand n hand with the Storm and isn't the Storm on CDMA? My hunch...relax Verizon customers

Apparently the testing for the CDMA version is about 3 months behind that of the GSM version. As the 9800 and the 9670 are scheduled to be release by the end of September with OS6 installed on them, a delay of 3 months for the CDMA OS version would mean the end of the year or 2011.

The articles I have read basically say that RIM want to get the new OS out as soon as possible. As four fifths of the world use GSM technology, the CDMA testing looks to be getting a back seat.

I think it is only the 9550/9530 that run on CDMA, all the 9520/9500's run on GSM.

I could be wrong though.

Don't give up on RIM, just ditch Verizon and you problems will be solved!

I like the coverage I get with Verizon. Actually I guess its just RIM pissing me off. No biggie, it'll just force me to goto Android's Droid X instead.

Umm these are rumors. Also, you should be aware that Verizon is always slow to release devices due to their testing protocols.

Furthermore, we've already seen OS6 is coming to CDMA devices.

Historically, RIM has given a lot of control to the carriers, so your issue is really with them.

Yes you are right... its is coming but the rumors are saying it will come last.
