In a research note yesterday, Kaufman Bros. analyst Shaw Wu said, "BlackBerry 6, the next version of Research in Motionís BlackBerry operating system, may not come out on CDMA networks like Sprint and Verizon until 2011". Seeing that over 80% of the world uses the GSM based networks, it would only make sense for RIM to focus their attention on GSM phone models first. Saving the CDMA models for a later date in time would be an unfortunate side effect for CDMA users.
We all know in our hearts that RIM has always favored the GSM technology over CDMA for a long time now. Personally I have always wondered why CDMA companies, which are only a few, have not made the switch to GSM yet. This is a prime example of how they are losing out on opportunities that device manufacturers have to offer. Companies like Verizon are now going to have to wait for BlackBerry 6 for more then a half year. That is more then 6 months after companies like AT&T, T-Mobile, Rodgers, etc... get their hands on it.
We will have to wait and see if these rumors turn our to be true or bogus... However they turn out, I know a load of Verizon fans will be quite upset with this post. All I can say is lets hope the rumors are wrong and you get your BlackBerry 6 sooner then later or you leave the Big Red and AT&T's GSM network.
Either way, lets not loose faith in RIM!
