BlackBerry OS 6 Sneak Peak
I've watched this video a good 2 or 3 times now, not because of how beautifully the OS flows but out of curiosity of how it will look on those phones that aren't touch screen. I admit, on the storm (as previewed in the YouTube video) it is a very gorgeous OS; however on those devices that don't sport a touch interface it leaves a bit of emptiness. Putting that minimal negativity aside OS 6 is looking better and better with every sneak peak they throw at us!
Along with the sneak peak released by RIM, they also stated: "which is on track for release this summer." Not 100% sure about you all, but I'm excited to have some new software for the 8520! This 5.0 is great and all, but I'm noticing more and more glitches as I move along using it.
In the video they show some great new features that the OS comes with, instead of just showing us still images. The global search for example is a great addition (Granted it should have been added way back when, better late than never though!). I'm also very interested in the "Special Friends" application they showed vaguely in the video. From what I managed to put together from viewing the video, it looks like an application where you simply mark someone as "Special", which then puts them in this category that you can mass distribute information or updates to your "Special Friends".
All in all, I'm excited for OS 6.0. I do think RIM is moving in an excellent direction. So what are you guys thinking? Does the video spark any interest or is it showing off what's already been seen?
OK...so I like this version of the OS6 videos. I was not a fan of the original with all the dancing and stuff. This really showed off the OS nicely. Love the look of the keyboard. Browser is unfrigginbelievable. Seamless interfacing between apps looks very fluid and intuitive. I think RIM is finally closer to getting it right!
I would rather see videos of the OS actually running on a phone, being used by a real person.
Sorry to poo-poo, but I am not loosing any sleep waiting for it's release.
Is that a 68' Gibson geetar leading? That is the best part of the video, as well as the typing speed. Lastly, will the OS really be that quick?
Saw this on BerryReview today, I guess time will tell -
I love when analysts start shaking things up. I am not sure how solid this is but supposedly Kaufman Bros. Analyst Shaw Wu said in a research note today that BlackBerry 6 may not come to CDMA devices until 2011. Supposedly the GSM BlackBerry 9800 is already in beta testing for a September launch.
This is not really groundbreaking considering the fact that practically every CDMA BlackBerry other than the Storm launches on GSM about 6 months before CDMA variants. Still its just another source stating that BlackBerry 6 might not be coming a new Storm revision before 2011.
i am using an android rite nw, bt this 1 seems quite interesting....
lokin forward to use it personally.......:-)
It's going to be interesting to see where this goes for RIM, in the development of OS Rim has always been about what works and what's safe but still this keeps RIM from progressing into the future. Still this shows that their concerned about the direction that Black Berry is going in and hopefully they can take it up a notch to support the hardware they need to get on track with and have avoided till this point.
Maybe I did something special, but my 9000 Bold is running on 184.108.40.206 after I updated it today.
I had 220.127.116.112 but it changed to the 6.0 after an update.
Is this possible or is my Bold mesed up?
If I may ask, does it actually run OS 6.0? Or just say it's running OS 6.0?

Then you get the pin, IMEI and MAC.
I find it after pressing alt+sgift / arrow up + h.
I have no idea if its actually running on OS6 because I dont see any changes after an update.
The update was done by hooking it up to my laptop, it told me there were updates and I installed them.
Then it changed from 5.0.822 to this 6.0 version.
