Absolutely Great Post Nate. I am looking froward to this FASHO:hail::hail::hail::hail::hail::hail:
I just hope that this works for current models! I have the storm2 and I hope that we dont have to get new devices because that would really be bad!!
OS6 is a step in the right direction, but we need details.....does this thing support widgets similar to Android? - I like my Storm, however there are aspects (mostly OS related) that are now 2 generations behind. RIM can build a good phone, holds a signal like a champ and has darn good battery life for a touch screen phone (I go 3 days easily between charging), but their OS has fallen behind the curve sort to speak. Of course there's also the issue that early OS releases seem to be ridden with bugs than a termite infested shack. US Storm 1 owners didn't officially get a decent OS until the Storm 2 was shipping.
I sort of like the idea of the 9800, touch screen ala Storm/2 and keyboard for larger messages/emails. If however the OS isn't there, I'm going elswhere for my next phone. (Currently out of contract and anxious to see what's coming SOON).
to get back on the subject...
My belief is that this is RIM's final attempt to get in bed with tech-savvy people, geeks, and users who do appreciate their works... BUT... If 6.0 doesn't bring all the necessities, it'll be bye,bye for many, many users...
What does 6.0 needs to show- a bunch of things - from more user friendly API's, webkit browser, better multimedia handling, full e-mail support, more pixels(480x360 is good for the bold/curve, but it needs to be pumped up for the touch-screens), to integrated VoIP in the system... Better hardware as well(3D graphics)... And a lot of other stuff, but i believe that if some is implemented of the above, would be a good way of catching the train with the others manufactures....
Considering the questions of support for the devices, is again, a priority... Full support for the devices from the last 8-16 months is a must!!
If that isn't to be, well, then RIM would not only be shooting them selves in the foot, but preforming worst kind of suicide attempts, all at the same time...(worst of all- requiring take-over from applez with their neverending profits made with i-OS)...
WES is coming... RIM, lookout, mr Jobs has a lot of money to spend....
