Could we see 5.0.0.519 at the end of the month?

It seems lately every carrier has an official OS for the 5.0 series. Except for one major carrier. Yes, Verizon. Sometimes I wonder how Verizon manages to remain in top dog. Either way, we have some news that Verizon could finally join every one else and release an official 5.0. Now is not confirmed so we are considering it a rumor for now but apparently the talk inside Verizon is they may be releasing 5.0.0.519 at the end of the month. This OS will be for the 9550 AND the 9630. I really can not wait for the day I can write a post about the 9650 being here. Ugh, that's a different story. Again, this is not confirmed and just a rumor at the moment. I really hope this is indeed true since it seems any device on Verizon is no longer liked by the OS Gods. What do you guys think?

It truly is rather sad that we have to hope for a new OS when it comes to the Storm. Featured in commercials and everything else, yet there's somebody at Verizon that's saying, "No, there's no need to update the OS", when indeed there is a need.

I wonder if this 5.0.0.519 has anything to do with this post:

Update on VZ testing new OS builds for Storm/Storm2 | GizmoFusion

It doesn't mention the 9630, but mentions that the 9530 and 9550 have builds in testing right now.

It would be nice to see Verizon FINALLY stepping up to the plate. I have five lines with them and wonder why EVERY DAY! Oh, contracts...that's right. Hopefully the 9550 sees this update and the 9650 launches immediately after. BUT knowing Verizon, I will not hold my breathe.

It would be great if they step up and get this build out. Hopefully the build will be great and then the release of the 9650 would be even better. Im keeping my fingers crossed but not holding my breath. Thanks for the update guys.

    VZ and the OS Gods

If it wasn't for the great coverage provided by VZ, I believe the slowness in their OS upgrades would have many jumping ship. The Storm is just a forgotten device in the land of Big Red, they must figure why spend $$$ on upgrades when they can just rake in profit. When the other providers systems are equal, they will have no edge.

I wonder what is in store for this build. The current .428 leak is pretty good, no real glaring issues for me anyway. It wont have the webkit browser and that's the next big leap. Unless there are some feature or layout differences it might not be that different.

Agreed. I'm pretty happy with .428. It beats .320 into the ground. I had some issues at first, but I went back a few days ago and it's been great.

I do agree that .428 is hands down better than the "official .320". However, .428 is not without some clear issues. The biggest ones I have seen are in SMS. Scrolling within a thread is very inconsistent and jumpy. Also, there are times that I begin typing a reply to an SMS message, and suddenly I will be bounced out of the message I was typing in and bounced around the list of threads...

I hope that whatever Big Red does with a new build takes care of these SMS issues...

I hope this includes an option to dump the threaded texting. I know everybody wanted it, but I can't stand trying to read a 4 line message in a 1 line box! :aargh4:

as if this will help the situation, I will mention you can hide the keyboard to read the message. I had to show my g/f how to do that because she uses a larger font due to poor eyesight (maybe that's why she says I'm good looking....), before she was shown this, she could'nt even read her messages due to them being too large to show in the screen unless the keyboard were hidden.
Have you ever wondered why things intended to make our lives simpler keep getting more complicated to use?

Just over the pond, here in the UK, we have only one carrier (Vodafone) who have released an OS 5 (5.0.0.411) for the Bold 9000! all the others are way behind, and it's very annoying. TMob UK official is 4.6.0.216 3UK are on 4.0.0.183, Orange have 4.6.0.518, finally O2 4.6.0.303

I just hope the hurry up and give us the much needed official upgrades.

Thankfully, we can rely on the likes of to give us what we need as soon as it's alerted!hone:
