BlackBerry OS 6.0 in the works???

BlackBerry OS 6.0 in the works…:haha:

by Boy Genius on February 2nd, 2010 at 6:02am

Filed under: BlackBerry, BlackBerry OS, Exclusives, Featured, RIM, Whisper 47 Comments

One of our most-solid BlackBerry connects has just dropped word that internally, RIM is starting to work on OS 6.0.
We can’t reveal details about the OS at this time, but in addition to molding what is OS 6.0, we also know that RIM is working on OS 5.2 which should debut sometime this year. Logical upgrade paths? Definitely. Let’s hope it won’t just be more evolutionary RIM madness, though. More as we get it…

    truth or rumor... You decide.

well, I could imagine a few improvements justifying 5.2...or even 6.0 becoming true

    Thumbs down

This seems kind of like a no-brainer..

Does anyone really think that 5.0 was going to be the last OS RIM will ever develop? :duh:

Of course they are working on an improvement and updates to the current released and next Gen OS's! ..that is unless they have recently made it a high priority to become obsolete and put themselves out of business.. :laugh2: :laugh2:

Flash would be nice... I just wish someone would get their finger out and get some cool OpenGL stuff done.

Last year, everyone was talking about development, but nothing credible has surfaced yet.

Lets just hope RIM has been watching the forums and listening to the customers especially now its so main stream as well as business users.
Support for apps, web and media would be good and less memory leaks of course.
And yes RobinM flash would be very nice, as would MS Office support included from the word go...

    Please, please, pretty please RIM........

The 6.0 is more than likely set for the new 512mb devices and the 5.2 for the 256mb devices... The information I've seen shows that the 512 OSs won't fit on tbe previous devices. Kind of like the partial 5.0s being put on the curves and pearls... Kevin at crackberry joked that those devices have received 5.0 light! They don't have all the bells and whistles that the newer devices received. Long story short... My assumption is that 5.2 will be 6.0 light for the 256mb devices.

I totally agree Jasonfyc. OpenGL and Flash would be a nice improvment but the hardware reasources would most deffinitly have to step it up to comply. Let's just hope that Android and RIM get together and make a baby on Valentine's Day. We should see the results by November.

Those would be sweet. And IMO if Android and RIM get together and make a baby-- I hope it doesn't have that nasty slide out keyboard. :aargh4:

Do you know, or have you hard if this will be "global"? Meaning will this be on all devices or just a select few?
Should be interesting, the 5 series os's were far better than the 4s but I'm wondering what is in store, since the older devices may or may not have the processing power for larger os's.
    Any thoughts?

I'm also wondering if they're working on a way to use the memory from the media card for processing instead of just using the onboard memory. like loading applications to the media card instead of device memory, that would be pretty sweet.

This would be a worthwhile update and well worth the wait!!!

BlackBerry has to be careful, they don't want to alienate them from their business users. But they will need a competetive product (OS) for the non-business everyday user.

I use my BlackBerry primairly for business related purposes, but like to have some fun features as well. But I do not see myself going the iPhone / Droid route.

Holding my breath, holding, holding, oh forget it. Too much speculation, let me see a leak and then I'll believe it. Until then just looks like a doctored picture to me.

How about some more 5.0 releases before we get to 6.0?

Has anybody noticed the radio file

Has anybody noticed the radio file still is from "9550AMEA_v5.0.0.428_P4.2.0.182" or is it just me? Maybe it was reworked but something just isn't right.
