Audiovox turns your berry into a remote control unit

Audiovox, the brand name behind several other brands, has announced a new remote solution for iPhone and Blackberry on CES. Unlike others, this solution communicates with its base station via Bluetooth, and does not require a dongle. Three different systems should be in stores in spring this year: An 'AV Remote' ($60) talking to up to 16 different devices, such as your DVD player or TV, a 'Garage Remote' ($50), and a 'Smartphone Jukebox' ($70) letting you control your iPod.

Hey, we are getting closer, what about rephrasing this last part: ...and a 'Smartphone Funbox' letting you control every iPhone ...just kidding of course. Many companies are now going for extending the reach and use of the berry, from partially controlling your car to doing presentations - what I would really like is a combination of all these functions in just one solution. Wouldn't that be great?

This is really cool. I will probably be buying and using this as long as it works.

Another alternative for making your berry a remote is getting a sound to ir converter. They sell tiny little ones that plug into the 3.5 jack. You first take your remote and convert all the buttons into sound files using the converter, load them onto your berry, then when you play then in your media player you convert them back into ir.

I would love this. I wish it wasn't so expensive though. Still very cool.

    'Berry' ... 'Coffee' ...done
I really like the idea of using my berry to control more functions of my daily life, but where is the one-fits-all solution, garage and car opener, open the roof of my convertible, start my car, turn on my car's air-conditioning, play music, videos, start the HD recorder ...shouldn't be too difficult to get it as one package?
