I'll bet anyone that facebook is sold in the next 2 years, they are probably waiting to get the value back up over 10 Billion where it was 2 years ago...then who knows what will happen after that, but it will most likely be a publicly offered Company and turning profit...

domain-b.com : Digital Sky's stock purchase values Facebook at $6.5 billion

It may last 5 more yrs., but nowhere the popularity that is presenting now. ICQ was huge, then it was bought by AOL, and went to shit real fast because of the advertising, and every gimmick that can lure you into paying in one form or another.

With the flow of technology embedded in the internet, nothing last forever. Something new will come along that people will crave (ie. facebook) and then it will fade once something else even better will replace it. Kinda like real world.

Used Friendster for three years, then Facebook came and crushed it to dust.

If Facebook can survive for years to come, I think it will come down to the applications and games it provides, without them Facebook is nothing on its own. I've seen people updating their status and photo albums less and less these days, they only come to Facebook to play Mafia Wars and the like... So it's like Facebook is no longer a social network but a social GAMING network now.
