The Cost of Owning a Smarthphone

PCWorld ran a chart comparison in the cost during a two year contract of the 8 top selling smartphones in the market, there isn't a big difference in the total cost of ownership (device, service contract, and so on) over two years--they all come in at around $3,800.

The winners are: the Palm Pre from Sprint and HTC G1 on T-Mobile's network, not really top sellers but good numbers ha?

I still think it's rather expensive when you factor in all the extras per month. $30 for data, $20 for messages. That's an extra $50 a month. I am T-mobile, mainly because of their prices. Also, didn't they do one of these comparisons last year?

That's great info E. Technically a dumb phone is only $15 less with a data plan a month with no email

I'm just glad my company pays for my BB service. That is an insane amount. My wife has a pearl on vzw so I imagine our cost for that is outrageous too. Glad I don't have to pay for both. I would go broke..
