There's one reason why people think RIM is dead. And that stupidity.
These people either never used a BlackBerry device, used one and jumped to iPhone - Android because "my friends have one" (trust me, I know a few of those) , have had a bad experience with one (which most likeliy was carrier related), think they have little to no good apps or heard from friends "it sucks"
In all, these people should have never gotten a BlackBerry device to start with. App's are not why one buys a BlackBerry, all devices break, even an iPhone doesn't work when your carrier is down, and if you need friends to tell you what to get, you're a sheep and Blackberry users are lions. We eat sheep for breakfast!
I'm getting kinda *bleeep bleeeeep beleeper the bleeeeep* at all these negative reporting "experts" and "analysts" who have been proven wrong more times then they have been proven right.
RIM will be around for a very long time. Not as a domminant #1 or #2 but as a stable and sollid force.

    RIM

We have to consider that most of the BB's sold last few years are in places like Nigeria, Indonesia , Malaysia and so on. The BB's sold there are cheep phones. In the US almost nobody is bying a Blackberry these days. In Europe it's also tough. The BB Appworld is not the greatest compared to the Apple App Store. I have a Bold 9900 and a Playbook and an iPhone 4S so I know. So I can't really agree with your positive description of RIM. With BB 10 they have to push into the market in the US otherwise RIM will probably be for sale. Sad !

How will you get this article published or quoted on the financial sites like Seeking Alpha or The Street? They are constantly misquoting facts in what appears to be an orchestrated smear campaign against RIM?
I have invested in a mere 100 shares of RIM when it was at 13.50 and I won't sell because I believe in RIM and I'm stubborn.
I monitor Yahoo Finance constantly, even at work and I'll wager that you will be ignored.
    I'm hoping that I'm wrong.
    Thanks,
    Tony Renier

You do realize that a Bold 9900 and a iPhone 4S come in at pretty much the same price? The US is not the ONLY market in the world. As an independent tech review my job feels VERY repetitive at times because after reviewing android phone after android phone they pretty much ALL do the same thing. This goes with iOS as well. BlackBerry 10 is something new and fresh. It's something we haven't seen before and therefore it's worth getting excited about.

Also, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria, South Africa, etc are still countries. I HATE when people think of them as "different" seriously it's about damn time we stop thinking the US is the ONLY market. RIM could cease ALL BlackBerry development in the US, it's not like they'll die. I believe in a report or press release RIM issued that the US is only about 8-10 percent of the entire BlackBerry user base.

Blackberry is becoming a hot commodity in the philippines especially for young professionals.5 years ago, only a handfull filipinos use blackberry.

But today, blackberry is second to iphone when it comes to sales. A lot of working professionals especially the young ones are using bb today and were not talking about the low end bb phones. I see a lot of bold and torch being used by many Filipinos today.

I am a BlackBerry Admin for a small Org. and we still purchase BlackBerries. We have over 200 employees and half of them have BlackBerries. Now do not get we wrong- we do have users wanting to jump ship (not because their device is not functioning) but because of words like this: my friend said and I wanted to video chat or my favorite they don't have any cool apps. I am here to support the end users so I get them what they want. But the point to this post is, BlackBerries are still selling- not as much as 4-years ago but they are selling! My $0.02

I have to read the article but my $0.02 on the post... I like the post but think it's important to realize that people will listen to their friends, store reps, etc simply because they don't know. That doesn't necessarily make them weak. There may be 70-80 MM of us BB users out there, and a large number of us are serious fans and truly understand the benefits. I do wonder just how loyal the RIM customer base is given the defectors that we can all identify personally. However, most people don't know and both Apple and Droid marketing have done a good job focusing on things like the number of apps. So, it's up to RIM and BlackBerry Nation to get the real story out there. I think and continue to recommend OS7 devices and wouldn't think of switching from my 9900, except of course when RIM delivers BB10.

Exactly, things like video chat, and games like Words With friends are a couple reasons why people jump ship. BlackBerry 10 will be a whole new ball game; as I believe it will give the consumer something they have never seen before. The only issue I see with BB10 at this point is the time delay, most consumers are not as patient as true BlackBerry fans.

As a blac user in Nigeria I Would say Nigeria is one of the fastest growing market for RIM. Every youth wanna get a blackberry fone in Nigeria, so I don't and won't see RIM going bankcrupt in no time. Those who are castigating RIM can u spot the difference between the bOLD9900 and the Iphone 4S? I have both and I see no difference aside battery life. But pls RIM should include NIGERIA in their list of countries in their site. Thank you

The world market is the future. According to Adduplex, a company that monitors app advertising, in December 2011, the US was 45% of the app market. In July 2012, the US was 26% of the app market. China went from 7% to 14% in 6 months, and India went from not showing to 8% in 6 months. Those of you that think the US is the center of the smartphone world are going to find the US in third place well before the end of the year.

    Watch out!

Something to add about BlackBerry 10 apps... The BlackBerry App Generator will create thousands of more apps which ALL are going to be AUTOMATICALLY updated to new apps that will support BlackBerry 10. So add thousands more apps on top of that 34K number. I think we will be pleasantly surprised at how many apps are available at launch.

I too am a BES Admin for 2400 BB users and 138 PlayBooks. When we first allowed iPhone into our environment, BB #'s dropped to 1900 within weeks. Since then BB #'s have cmbed back to 2300 over the last three months. The story at my work is that those who went to iOS did so for 'fun' but soon learned that the iPhone was not a business friendly device and it cost them on average 30-40% more to operate. I expect when BB10 come out, the majority of those who went to iPhone will come back.

Needless to say our company has invested in BES and we are evaluating FUSION as we speak. We will be a BB shop for the foreseeable future.
