thats not technically possible.
What's not possible?
that current apps will be upgraded to bb10.
Little clarification... The generated apps will automaticallly be newly produced for BB10. That's what I meant as upgraded to BB10.
Added clarification to the article.
Actually, this IS possible. If I write an app today for the PlayBook I can make it look like any PlayBook app, not too fancy etc. When BlackBerry 10 is released, lets say I want my app to have BlackBerry 10 User Interface (UI) elements, It's not too hard for me to use bbUI.js to make that happen. I don't even have to modify my base code.
PlayBook OS = QNX = Basis of BlackBerry 10.
Is that right! And of course you have base code access to an App Generator created app?
I'm no developer but I've spent a bunch of time talking to the guys who are actually supporting this and when I asked them about this, they informed me that I waa right.
I think the fact that you even mention base code and bbui.js suggests you have little or no knowledge of the app generator.
Actually I am a developer. I do have access to the App Generator. I have an app that been done in the App Generator. I suggest you don't make such assumptions about people.
Now for App Generator. You don't have access to the base code, although let's say you write an app, that app will work on BlackBerry 10 if its written for the PlayBook OS. Obviously you want to optimize it for the display but the app will still be functional. I mentioned bbUI.js because for apps done in Webworks/HTML5 that is the tool you would use.
Now stop with the condescending tone![]()
The App Generator apps are HTML WebWorks based apps. That is why they are only available for OS 5.0 Smartphones and higher and PlayBook. When you go to create a add service for the generated app, you must select that it is a WebWorks app.
Don't talk to me about any condescending tone. You're the one who decided to jump on this and say it was possible.
Whether or not your a developer is irrelevant as we're discussing app generator created apps.
The app generator is for us users who aren't developers.
This thread is about the app generator and what it will do, not about developing code.
You keep rabbiting on about the playbook but the app gen produces apps for the phones. How are you going to upgrade them to bb10.
When I said you have no knowledge of the app generator if it was from a code perspective, not a user perspective.
Wow, I was beginning to like this board but with a mod like you accusing users of being condescending just because they don't agree with you, Im beginning to wonder.
Alright gentleman, we all have valid points. No need to make into a blame game thread. To change the path of this conversation, what feature would you guys like the most to be added to the App Generator?
I for one would like to see the ability to add pre-made widgets to an app. Like utilities, ect.
