Before I start here to find a solution to your issue(s), if I may ask you to please fill in your profile as much as possible, so when the time arises that you require help either from a BBOS Team member or another member, it makes our job that much easier for you, and us to find an accurate solution.
You say that the downloading speeds are not as quick as you had hoped it would be tonight, so I have personally double checked the download file we posted on our site, and found there is absolutely nothing wrong with RIM's servers, and the download speeds from where I am (see screen shot below).
If you feel that your download speeds are not sufficient, please check your ISP's (hardware equipment) modem, and if you're using a wireless router, check to see it you have properly configured the settings.
You would be very surprised how the performance is greatly affected if the router's settings are not properly configured.
Another solution would be to unplug both your modem, wireless router for about 30-60 seconds, then plug each power source back into the modem, and router.
That's called a power cycle.
