This week's Deadpod features a show that I've always enjoyed, although the recordings that were previously available of it were all flawed in various ways (off pitch, and Jerry was always low in the mix).. this new release from Charlie Miller fixes many of these problems and I think you'll really enjoy the energy the band shows throughout the show....

I just found out that my good friend - Brian Heath - "the Captain" lost his battle with cancer this week.. Brian knew more about the Dead than I ever will and I'll always remember his kind heart and his big smile. Sleep in the stars my brother...

Quite the powerhouse set this week!

This week's Deadpod starts with one of my all-time favorite Shakedown Streets - this one really blows the doors off the place then seques into a fine Samson & Delilah..After a sweet Ship of Fools we're treated to a great ride on the Terrapin Express!! This set seems a real precursor of the fine shows to follow in 1980 and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.. the double encore, Alabama Getaway into Promised Land, shows me the band had a great time this night as well!

The Estimated jam looks interesting right in the middle of that set. Looking forward to the double encore too and to boot ending it with a Promised Land. I know they used Chuck's Johnny B Goode often for the encore but don't recall off the top of my head with the shows I have hearing Promised Land as the encore. Usually they start the show off with that number. Also neat is the Black Peter in a second set

Oops got so excited seeing a 1979 Black Peter I inadvertently hit the post reply. Glad they chose Alabama Getaway as the other encore. I liked that and Althea from the Go to Heaven album. I was still under heavy withdrawals at that time with Donna leaving the band...and Keith too. But more Donna.

I will put up some primal Dead this weekend.

This week's Deadpod has two unusual occurances - first a show from 1986 - a year I usually find quite depressing and an audience tape to boot! I think when you give this show a listen you'll understand why I decided to ignore my prejudices and post this classic show! This one starts with a smokin' Alabama Getaway into Greatest Story.. there's a *fine* Dire Wolf and I was always a fan of Brother Esau.. the rest of the set is very well played as well, and closes with the second Box of Rain in a week after having not been played since '73.. the crowd goes predictably wild..

I hope you enjoy the performance..
