So if can not fully use the hybrid os features, what's the purpose for the hybrid?
to make the phone faster, more stable, better battery life, better signal, just overall a lil snappier. I am unsure of if those are even compatible with your device your base will still be for the 83xx so as long as its compatible with that you shoulod be fine

I got 184.108.40.206, 4.5 Hybrid with 4.6/5.0 files, and .131 Radio.
I made a detailed instruction set, step by step, installed everything to the computer and began my journey.
It went pretty smooth also. Just a couple of places I am not sure I chose correctly or not.
First, BBM 5.0. In the hybrid there were BBM folders for 4.5 and 5.0. I decided to open the 5.0 folder and copy the .cod files into the Java file, replacing when asked. Since the install never asked which BBM I wanted, I figure I got that one right. And BBM 5.0.0 is listed under applications.
The next one was not so easy. When I selected Load OS and it opened App Loader Wizard, it gave me a message something like I was downgrading and some of the files were newer than the ones I was trying to install. Then asked something like leave system apps-recommended, or replace.
I did not have any notes about this but thought I remembered seeing in a thread someplace about downgrading and to use replace when installing an os with a hybrid, so that is what I did.
There were a few other things that you could install or not, and since I had no idea what many of them were, I defaulted to be safe and include them. I did get Shrink-A-OS to reduce the java file from 42.11MB to 33.42MB, about 20%, so I thought that was pretty good.
Once the install had run its course, I had the following under Options\ About:
V 220.127.116.11 (Platform 18.104.22.168)
Cryptographic Kernel V 22.214.171.124a
Micro Edition Config CLDC 1.1
....Profile MIDP 2.0
....Media Version 1.1
....Pim Version 1.0
....File Version 1.0
...Bluetooth Version 1.1
....Location Version 1.01
Do these look correct for the install I did?
Under Applications, it showed Blackberry Messenger 5.0.0
Under Options\Advanced\Applications\ scrolled down to Blackberry 4.5.0 Core Applications and hit the blackberry button and chose Modules. I scrolled through the list and found about a dozen 126.96.36.199 files and a couple of 188.8.131.52 files.
So, I think the install/upgrade probably went just fine.
If I could please get some confirmation as to rather I made the correct choice in app loader, to replace rather than leave, I would much appreciate it. Also if there is anything else on the phone I should check, please suggest away.
I have not seen the phone lock up or go into reboot by itself or anything like that, but then it has gotten very little use since the install. One of the problems with acute insomnia is that you do not get much time outside the must do daily stuff to actually try the phone out. To see if the loud clicking/chirping/whatever noise was there when you make a call, I called my answering machine up at the shop and the greeting sounded fine. Maybe you need a real voice, or it has to be to another cell phone???
I was getting some medical tests run today and used the alarm several times to remind me when to return to the hospital and it worked fine.
I admit that I have not looked in the site's dictionary, nor have I done a search, but could somebody please point me to a very easy to follow and understand method for setting up and using BBM, please?
Thanks to all, Chris.
You did it! you didnt bother me one bit.. downgrade was correct option. BBM5 set up is just a matter of going in and adding peoples pins that you know with a blackberry... it alot like the 4.7 cept better lol.. you did everything perfect and you will not have the screech anymore!! You will really like this hybrid. and you took the leap did great work. Let us know if you need more help with the BBM5.0 but if you have used 4.7 you should have no trouble.
using bits from each OS (especially 5.0) to make a great running hybrid!!

i need some help
i have got an 8330 coming to me soon and i want to install this hybrid on it once i get it. i have already downloaded the latest 184.108.40.206 OS for the 8330. I downloaded the hybrid files as well as the 131 radio file. if im understanding this correctly, i copy the files from the hybrid zip into the java folder of my .169 install and then just run loader.exe right????
question, on page 1 it says 131 radio file is recommended for verizon customers, which i am, but in parenthesis it says be sure and rename accordingly. what am i supposed to rename the 131.sfi file to so i can load it on my curve?????
