    Hybrid Map & Requirements

I'm new to the game but bear with me.

Would it be possible to create a list of which packages are easily upgradeable from one leaked OS to another?

I see the ALX files are basically XML's that show what COD files (JADs) get installed for each package.

Here is an example of what I'm calling a package:

    TASKS
    =====
    Tasks-Java.alx
    net_rim_bb_task_app.cod

    or

    HELP
    =====
    Help.alx
    net_rim_bb_help.cod
net_rim_bb_help_9630__xx.cod ; where xx is the language id

Is there any manual manipulation that is required when porting an OS or OS package?

I ask because I'm interested in developing cooking tools - I have done the same with windows mobile in the past.

Thanks in advance, and I'm glad to be apart of the community here :cool2:

    Hey Juicy!

nice to see you made the transition! idk if you remember me but i mod over at ppcgeeks...

anyways the way hybrids are made.. at least from my understanding is combining the CODS files from one OS to another for example to get the new BBM2 (5.0) onto say your tour... you would copy the CODs from the folder to the OS folder (C:/program files/common files/research in motion/shared/loader/OS folder here/Java

this is where the loader exe looks to install the new OS's. also you can copy the the ALX file (im not 100% sure this is necessary but i tend to do it anyways) to (C:/program files/common files/research in motion/shared/loader/OS folder here

from what i understand the only way to really test is to load them onto the phone and try to boot it... i tried to get the new storm 5.0.0.140 browser running on the tour last night but the app crashed (clearly wont work with this OS yet)

the installs you see are just extracting and overwriting the cods in the os folders.

bbcrackman and lyricidal and OneOfAKindPC are the key guys making hybrids right now

    ps

(me and wideawake) created a nice app to help with the wiping and installing process we are testing one that does 3rd party app backups as we speak check

yes i remember you... glad to see you here. hopefully you can add my name to the list once i learn a little bit more.

i know how the hybrids work, and basic cod/alx structure.

my question is along the lines of building a list/map of which packages are known to work from one OS to another. Or is it just a crap shoot from one leaked OS to another? If there are certain 'packages' or apps that work all the time, why not create a list? it would be very useful as testing OS' on this thing is so annoying.... takes like 20mins.

its a complete crap shoot thats the problem... you have to test each package or cod which is why hybrids are such a pain in the ass to make takes so long bc you really dont know till uve wiped and reloaded the phone to see what kind of errors you get.

and then to see what happens after uve run the shit for a few days

    2 apps for hybrid chefs

    1) PrepIt - put a new leaked OS in a DUMP folder. run my script and it will package every app on its own.
    2) PortIt - user prompts on which packages they would like ported into their hybrid rom

hope this makes sense... is anybody interested?

    Juicy,
You are talking about tools like the ones for windows mobile. Are you the same person that makes roms for Touch Pro's and Diamonds on PPCGeeks.

Hey guys, this project is not dead. My Tour was defective, and as I awaited a replacement, I was on an HTC Touch Pro2 for a while.

I've been able to map out most of the Core Apps now, games, and docstogo... succesfully ported contents from 5.0.0.348 from 8900 to my tour without error

149 files to be exact ~~ exciting times for aspiring hybrid chefs

    Juicy,

Good to see you, I have moved to the BB Tour and I've been pleasantly surprised, thought I wouldn't be able to pull myself away from buying a TP2...

Hope to see you release something for the Tour soon!
