Also, will this OS (If I figure out how to load it) make my device show as a v5 OS? I wanted to install the meterberry app which is only compatible with 4.7 and above. Is there a feature list of the v5 portion of this hybrid?
Thanks again!

Hi,
Just downloaded the hybrid. But I am having difficulty finding the "folders" that you listed. I can get to the "common files" one, but "research in motion" doesn't exist in there, anything I am doing wrong
I am completely new to this stuff, I was referred by a friend who did something similar to this on his Storm and essentially just made it faster and better:P
I'm assuming this will improve my curve tremenduously. I am a complete noob with this stuff and a link to another thread, or a youtube video, or anything for that matter would be much appreciated. Thanks
First off welcome to BlackberryOS
Since you don't have a shared folder listed that would suggest to me that you do not have a Base OS installed on your PC from the hybrid to attach to. What you need to do is download a copy of the OS for the curve that matches your model, then install that onto your PC. That in turn will create the shared and loader folders that you are missing. Then follow Lyricidal's steps after that.
Nicely stated Bryan.
Welcome to BBOS look forward to seeing you in the forums.
hey jlevy.....my ex has a curve.....this installs the same way that mine does????
i wanna install.......but is it worth it?
Greetings,
Please assist to clear up a few things.
1) Would you verbally explain what is improved by installing the Hybrid OS
e.g do you get the full HTML browser + tabs, do you get the new OS 5 profiling etc
2) would you kindly provide any screen shots if possible?
3) is there a back-out procedure if we find that the Hybrid does not fit our needs and if so is there any documentation to it etc?
I've been a 8703e user for a while, and recently switched to Curve 8330m after disliking the tight keys (no space between keyboard keys) of the Sprint Tour. I have no experience loading & unloading custom hybrid OS's other than upgrading my old BBerry from one version onto the other.
Thanks all
Welcome to BlackberryOS. I'm sorry no one has answered you yet.
To answer your first question. No. The browser does not have tabbed browsing. It is too early of a build to have that feature. The only known version that does is 5.0.0.140 for the Storm.
I can't provide you with any screen shots since I do not have an 8330.
Best way to downgraded would be to uninstall the the hybrid. Then Reinstall the normal OS, selecting the option to repair. Then simply connect your device and run app loader to back down the changes.
There is no change log for hybrids. They are not an offical release, but what I can tell you is this. I put this on my wifes phone 8330. She can now go 2 full days without charging. The browser is faster a bit. Signal is good. and the phone over all is faster and keeps more memoruy
Thanks all for replying.
Understood on the tabbed browsing missing and the actual increase in battery life + speed.
How about the actual look & feel. Does anything at all change?
I had Tour for 1 day running 4.7 OS and I noted that the profiles are different.
Also noted that Tour's browser gave much richer HTML browser than Curves, which is to be expected.
Being that the hybrid has a mix of some 4.6 features & 5.0 I was wondering if indeed the browser supports full html just as the 8350's (nextel) does, and if indeed the actual Profiles are similar to what the 5.0 OS are (which I believe are mimicked from 4.7)
I know it's hard to get screen shots, but a few verbal explanations on anything that is not listed above (speed + battery life) would be nice to make a decision.
Biggest sticking point is that I utilize BOLT to browse, and when getting HTML emails, they open automatically on BB browser, which as we know on Curve show imperfectly.
Thanks All
There is no change in the look or the feel other than its a lil faster. This os is still hacked up peices of os's for the curve and then some, only some 5.0 files..... until the come out with a 5.0 release for the curve I would say you wont see any of what you are looking for
Greetings,
thanks for your information. Indeed, it seems I will sit it out
and wait till 5.0 comes out officially, as so far the device works pretty decently
and as they say "don't fix what's not broken"
Thanks once more guys.
Ok I've never updated an 8330 but my daughter wants me to update hers. The only OS I have on my PC is for my Storm. When I download this one, where do I extract the files to since I don't have an 8330 OS already installed? Do I need to DL and install a regular 8330 OS to my PC first?
Wirelessly posted (Tour 9630)
No problem Sandlet us know if you have any more questions
